in 1970 as I was preparing to start nursing school..mom said join the Navy they will pay for your nursing education and start you as a Lieutenant. Or something like that. I said are you crazy! Ill be sent to Viet Nam. No way!

So no. I didn't take that advice.

@Mom2Dogs Boy could we swap stories! My boss bought me an IBM PC in 1983 and I was the first in the area to send manuscripts directly to the typesetting machines--that spoke a different computer language. OH my what a saga that was. Should have bought stock in Excedrin! My tear-stained DOS book!!!

Also was one of the first web masters, which to my delight followed the old linotype codes!!!!! People thought I was a genius because I made a web page the day I was tasked with it. Had NO idea it was because I knew a "language" for a machine that made hot lead slugs!!!!!! Press had made me code my own type for a collage of type I was working on for a cover!!!

My mother was always told me not to do things.........becasue she didn't want me to get hurt if I was not selected........eg trying out for teams, cheerleading etc. We couldn't have have friends if she didn't know their parents and she never made any attempt to socialize or get to know anyone outside our family circle. It was very sad, and later in life, she mentioned she regretted it as we could have met some very nice people and had some great experiences.

Which brings me to my smart ignoring when DH said in the 90s that we wouldn't need the internet.

I remember back in the 1960s that someone predicted that computers were going to be the big thing ... and some day everyone would have a computer.

They went so far as to say with computers, we'd become the paperless society.

Yeah, right.

I don't know about you, but for years, I had more paper than ever.

So ..... when does this "paperless society" start?

All of my elders thought that I wasn't 'listening' to them because I generally did what I wanted to do. However, I was listening. Sometimes they were right, but I needed to find that out for myself. Sometimes they were wrong. Other times, I went my way but came upon another situation later in life where their advice was useful.

Would I live my life the same way all over again if I knew then what I know now? H*ll no! But I'm not sorry; it turned out okay after a rocky start and I'm not complaining.

I had to think about this one...

"Get rid of your landline, they aren't worth it and you won't need it anymore. "Costs too much." " "People don't use them ." Obsolete. Etc.

I still have mine and access to three phones in the house instead of one Cell phone. I use my Cell for Text, Emergency out of the Home and verification of accounts, power outages etc.

The Landline screens my calls much better with specifics. Immediate access. It costs me a little over $20 a month. I like both. Right now thankful I still have a choice?
