When I was about 6 yrs old we had the first TV on our block. Every Friday night, my friend's dads would crowd into our livingroom to watch the Friday Night Fights. My mom and siblings and I would go to my aunt's house and eat dinner and play in her huge backyard til they went home. My nextdoor neightbors had a new washer and refrigerator delivered in big boxes. I and my friends played in those boxes for weeks! Until there was literally nothing left of them. They were houses, forts, stores, and everything else....such simple but meaningful memories. I wouldn't trade those years for anything.

My parents bought a new refrigerator and THE BOX was unbelievable! We happily played with it for weeks and had so much fun.
Obviously, we left it outside at the end of the day.
One morning I woke up and looked outside at where the box always was left. I had to check on it. Well, it had rained heavily during the night and left my magical box to collapse into a soggy wet flat piece of cardboard. There was really no saving or resuscitating it.
I was so disappointed ... and my little sister cried.

Not bitter, just sad and mad. And I shouldn't even have posted that last part because it had really nothing to do with anything from this thread and so I shouldn't have said that.
It was from reading comments from other threads that just makes me sad and mad about people. Probably one way or another we might all feel that way sometimes or a lot of times.

I read people giving experiences and feelings about being a child at that time, not as adults.
Like many said, there were wonderful things but also very frightening or awful things that people remember back then as a child.
What a wonderful world it would be if nothing bad ever happened.
To express those things is just how it was. The bad doesn't negate all of the good for me but I can also acknowledge that it was there.
People have so many different experiences and I think that is what that picture reminds many of. What their childhood was like. For some it was the good and the bad. For some all good, for some all bad.
For me despite some bad things and some wrong and frightening things happening around us and in the world I felt I had a wonderful childhood.

thank you for clarifying. Believe me I know how you feel. I do. There are times when people, even strangers online, can make you wonder where is the good in this world. It can be emotionally draining-if you let it.
here's a hug 🤗

I don't know why you would address others as narcissistic or controlling with different viewpoints @Northray
Why do so many feel the need to diagnose others with different feelings and opinions as having a mental illness?
"Narcissistic" seems to be a popular one these days.
I don't think this contributes to any valuable or helpful discussion.
It seems "controlling" in itself to me.
No one who is saying they had happy memories is denying that there was anything ever bad for them or others, just responding differently to the posted picture.
And that's what makes the world go round![]()
