I've been a volunteer at Planned Parenthood for 25 years, maybe longer. I've done pretty much everything from stuffing envelopes to serving on the Board of Directors. I enjoy doing fund raising and events the most. Working with patients as a hand holder is also very satisfying. When I was a bit younger I spent most Saturdays helping patients into the building. I can't do that anymore due to foot issues, and I don't miss standing out in the cold for a 4 hour shift!

This has been a labor of love for a cause I feel strongly about, and I look forward to each new challenge. I have tried out a number of volunteer opportunities over the years. If I don't find a few friends who become friends outside of the volunteering, I move to another group and try it out.

Thank you !

Thanks from me, too. I am a long time donor. Smiley Happy

Thank you! I am a long time volunteer and donor.

I also volunteer for candidates, on every level of government, especially in election years....everything but go door to door.

I also volunteer for a rescue. I do emails and phone calls. Due to allergies, I can't help out with the pups, so I do other work for them.

I volunteer in my local grammar school.

I volunteer at the spay/neuter clinic for a no-kill shelter. I clean the Dr's intruments and wrap them for sterilization. I also work in recovery. My other project is making preemie & chemo hat's for Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Those who benefit from the volunteer work don't care IF you get a paycheck or not . . . and many times . . . with small children . . . they don't even know the difference, all they know is that they are getting the extra attention and assistance, whatever it might be . . . from a caring person. I'd have to say volunteering and parenting are two of the best un-paid jobs I've ever had . . . more satisfying than "MOST" of the paid ones I've held.

A Thousand Points of Light . . . everyone should try to volunteer . . . it does the body & soul & spirit good!

I volunteered many years for LIFT....Literacy Instruction for Texas. Adult illiteracy. Drop out rate was high...it's definitely work both ways to make it successful. Hopefully if they left the program with something to inspire them to continue, it was a success. I had a father/daughter (16yr) that was with me for approx a year. It was very rewarding to watch them grow.

That sounds really rewarding....You made a difference to their lives. We have a similar local program..

I give piano lessons to inner city children. Our parish has a sister parish in Philadelphia. There are numerous musicians who volunteer. Instruments were donated from all over the area. I've been doing it on and off for almost 10 years. I few students went on to study seriously.

Yes, I volunteer. Sometimes I think it's worth it, other times not so much. The most rewarding project I've worked on so far was replacing/revamping the accounting system for a non-profit. It took me the better part of a year, but it was totally worth it. They really needed tighter controls and better reporting. They wouldn't have been able to do it if they'd had to pay someone to do it.
