I don't have many for the Spiralizer yet, I just got it recently. You don't eat shrimp, do you? There seem to be several for the zoodles and shrimp.

No ma'am, but there's a huge recipe database on Pinterest that's free for the taking. Starting a new thread for spiralized recipes would be nice...I would start, but my nic might spark a thread debate over which way to turn the handle!! Ha. Hey...again, thanks for circling back to me about the HRT. Smiley Happy

You're welcome. I debated whether to say something, but I really was concerned. OK, I'll gather up a couple that look good to me and start a thread about it tomorrow. I'm on the iPad tonight and I don't know how to copy a link etc. on it.

Geez, an argument about vitamin d somehow turns in to ugly statements about vegetarians having bad hair skin and nails. Really?

It was cleverly disguised....it was a comparison to smoker's skin.

It wasn't disguised at all and it wasn't about vegetarians at all, it was about people who are extreme with that fat intake. It wasn't meant to be rude or mean just as saying smokers age faster than non smokers. It is just a fact that your body needs fat for many functions of the body and especially for healthy skin, nails and hair. I didn't say vegetarians have bad skin, I said I could pick out people with extreme low fat diets immediately. I have been a hair colorist for 12 yrs and an esthetician for 13, you notice these things when you work with peoples skin and hair, you notice who has spent too much time in the sun without protection, who is a smoker and who has extreme diets. I don't need to disguise anything here. I am a pretty straight shooter. I say what I mean and I don't find a need to be passive aggressive.

Being snide is not you, Irsh. BTW, have you tried a Spiralizer?

Thank you! I have not tried it yet and I am shocked that my husband hasn't gotten one because he gets everything known to man that would be in the As Seen on Tv store. I noticed that they have them in the As Seen on TV aisle at Walgreens. I need to get one.

Low vitamin D is common with autoimmune illness, for sure with lupus.

Mine tested below normal a couple of years ago so my specialist put me on 2000 units a day. Mine is now at the low normal range.

I take a couple of other supplements, all approved by my medical team. I take CoQ10 for the heart, Andrew Lessman Essential multi vitamins and his eye health vitamin. I feel better than I have in a long time.

I also eat a very high fiber diet and a lot of fruit and veg. Mostly chicken and fish for protein. We have salmon once a week.

I eat very much like you do. I cut out a lot of the fruit I was eating , though, as I wasn't feeling satiated with it. I'm now eating more lean protein and I've always eaten MANY veggies. I, too, have a high fiber diet.

I don't believe in excess supplementation, but I do believe in Calcium/Mag/Vitamin D, Turmeric and Omega 3.

Experts agree high fiber is the way to go, you're on the right path Smile

I don't eat a lot of fruit, but I do have blueberries and a little of whatever is in season on high fiber cereal, and an apple each day. I have more veg than fruit.

I still eat blackberries and raspberries. I cut out the majority of the other fruit I was eating--which was low glycemic anyway. I, too, eat far more veggies, and they aren't the high-sugar ones.

{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

We pretty much follow the Mediterranean food plan which works for us.

And there are some of the most obese people on the face of the planet in Greece from consuming too much olive oil.

I don't use a lot of olive oil--I use a bit of olive oil.

I don't think many people from Greece are obese from consuming too much olive oil anyway.

OLIVE OIL AND OBESITY

Olive oil is a nutrient of great biological value. Like all other fats and oils it is high in calories (9 Kcal per gram), which could make one think that it would contribute to obesity. However, experience shows that there is less obesity amongst the Mediterranean peoples, who consume the most olive oil.

http://www.internationaloliveoil.org/estaticos/view/93-olive-oil-and-obesity

I agree. The amount of olive oil you would have to eat to be obese would be insane. Eating fat doesn't cause one to be fat. Fat is essential for our bodies nervous system, brain function, skin and hair health and there has been legitimate study after study (not just one) that people who eat more fat than carbs not only eat less because they are more satiated but were also have a lower BMI. If you are eating a balanced diet of unprocessed foods, fat is not the problem. Drs suggest a protein, then half the plate be for veggies and a small amount of carbs.

We are seeing obesity in countries were it was very rare and these are countries that regularly eat fatty meat. The changes are highly processed foods and sugar. Sugar is the number one reason for heart disease in this country.

Of course eating too much fat, just like eating too much of anything is a problem also but for people who eat a diet high in unprocessed food, the likelihood of being overweight from fat intake is very rare.

The French eat 4 times and much fat as Americans do and not only do they not have nearly the problem we do with obesity, they don't have nearly the problem with heart health. As popularity of processed foods spreads into countries around the world, so does the obesity problem.

Look at the no fat craze during the 90's. That caused more obese than any other food trend.

agree!

What did we all do before drugstore 'supplements'? And what if one can't afford supplements? The Vitamin D industry has an amazing marketing campaign...like the Protein & Dairy industries. Healthy VitD levels can be attained naturally...much as our ancestors did many, many generations before us.

You asked about our ancestors? Know this:

The life expectancy in America today is about 78 years.

In 1900 it was 47 years.

So? What's the point of having a longer life span if dementia and Alzheimer's is at epidemic proportions and growing stronger all the time? I would rather be dead at a younger age than be a burden on my loved ones for the last 10-15 years and not know I am even in the world...wearing diapers and babbling nonsense or wandering incessantly.

Yeah, because that's what happens when one gets to be beyond age 47. LOL!

Don't laugh! I know a few in their fifties with early onset Alzheimer's and it is not pleasant for their families.

The beautiful 40s actress, Rita Hayworth, developed Alzheimers in her 50s. She died at age 68. No one knew much about Alzheimers in those days and most who did thought it was suffered by the elderly only. They accused Hayworth of being an alcoholic because of her odd behavior. It had been Alzheimers all along.

My daughter's Lyme doctor was labeled a "quack" (even though he is an M.D. as well) by another doctor and a lawyer. She is on doxycycline and starting to feel better. My suspicion is that any doctor who writes on the Internet is automatically labeled a "quack" by the so-called "real" doctors and the accepted medical community.

I don't have faith in any of them, the "real" docs or the "quacks." I am on three meds prescribed by regular doctors that have only served to compromise my health further. I can't stop taking them because the withdrawal symptoms could be life threatening. My stomach was destroyed by long term use of Prevacid prescribed by my gastro doc, I make no acid at all and have for over six years had a pre-cancerous stomach lining condition called benign gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumor, for which I am approximately two years overdue for another endoscopy to monitor it. My gastro doc showed my octreotide tests to all of his associates, including a nationally known gastroenterologist who speaks at seminars all over the country . . . and none of them know what to do about it. It may stay benign or it may not. No one knows. I have completely lost faith in modern medicine.

I have chosen to die naturally as a result. Whatever happens to me happens. I cannot safely have any surgery anyway due to my autoimmune issues and my poor health. I am hoping to live a few more years because of my living situation with my little daughter now. Otherwise, I feel lucky to have lived as long as I have and while I fear death as much as anyone else, I accept it.

I know I will get bashed for my position on this matter . . . I always do. But this is my life and my decision, and I make no claim to be right.

This was great to read. Even a leopard can change it's spots.

I'll take this as a compliment. Thank you esmeralda.

Ford: I think you are right. What you do with your own body is your business. I am sensitive to lots of medications. I have had stomach problems since I was 18 yrs. old. I tried Fosamax for 4 months and it took me 2 yrs. to get my stomach back to halfway normal. I have recently been diagnosed with a Thyroid problem and the Synthroid gave me terrible stomach pain and nausea. I am very lethargic and have hardly been anywhere except out to eat and to see my Dad in the nursing home. I have not even been able to go to church on Sunday's because of all my problems. I do get even more tired if I don't take my multiple vitamims so I keep them going. Antibiotics hurt my stomach and so do many pain medications. I'm sure I am not telling you anything you don't know! I have decided to go to a wellness clinic, eat better, and do what exercises I can do (which is pretty much just stretching and walking). I do get it. There comes a time where you tell yourself....hey, were all going to die of something! I am going to try to get as much quality of life as I can by treating my body well. Outside of that, I have made up my mind that if I die at 65 or 70....then that is when I will die. That's a lot longer than some people live. I feel blessed to have made it this far!

I am 77 jubilant. I had lived a long and healthy life until age 66 and worked full time until that age also. That's pretty good. I want to be here for my children, and especially my little daughter who I now live with because she needs me. Hopefully she will get better before anything happens to me.

Everyone have a great Easter day!! {#emotions_dlg.wub}

I hope that for you, too, Ford. You're daughter is lucky to have you for a mother. You have a great Easter day too!

Thank you jubilant! I hope your Easter was filling and fine!!
