Vigil of the Princes

[ Edited ]

King Charles. Prince Edward, Princess Anne and Prince Andrew stand vigil surrounding the Queen's coffin.

The Vigil of the Princes is a long-standing tradition, honored ever since the death of King George V in 1936, and was last carried out during the Queen Mother's funeral in 2002.

Thank you.  It's good they allowed Anne to participate in the "Vigil of the Princes."

The family will be exhausted when all this is over.  Only seven more days to go!

Thank you for sharing @Somertime . Very poignant. I'm glad Princess Anne participated too.

I watched this live. It was so poignant. I was really struck when they showed close ups of their faces. The strain on Princess Anne's was heartbreaking. Those of us who have lost our mothers know something about how she is feeling.

She was lucky to have her mother and her grandmother as long as she did.

How long was the vigil? I believe that it began at 7:20 but not when it ended. Do you know? Thanks.

Re: Vigil of the Princes

Princess Anee is the hardest working Royal.  She has stayed with her mother's coffin since Queen Elizabeth's passing and the journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh to St. Giles and to London.

She completed 387 engagements, Charles completed 385, William completed 235 and Queen Elizabeth 185 in 2021!  Amazing.

Princess Anne is the only female Royal to wear a military uniform.

@occasionalrain   The Vigil is ongoing without Queen Elizabeth's children and will remain until Queen Elizabeth's coffin is transported to London.  The Vigil of the Princes lasted 10 minutes before King Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward left.  Sophie and Camilla remained seated for the 10 minutes until they all left St. Giles.
