Last November my granddaughter lost her best friend at the age of 16....sudden sepsis...it was, and still is, a very painful time....she would have been a Senior in high school this year....and starting soccer season....when she died, her friends and members of her soccer team painted a large rock at the high school purple-her favorite color-and they all signed the rock....with their handprints.   this morning it was vandalized...covered with white paint....it was on the local news and brought tears to my eyes.....who would do such a senseless act....WHY......little did i know when i saw it on the news, my granddaughter and her friends were already there repainting this beautiful memorial to a beautiful soul.....i'd love to be the judge in the courtroom when they catch the punks responsible for this heinous act.....just had to vent...

@nana59 There's nothing to say except I'm sorry.

I'm sorry too.  There are mean, heartless people out there.  Also, more good ones than bad.  I'm sure this will get fixed

The schools here at one time had statues, and every year an opposing school would paint the statue whatever their colors were. Finally the school boards got tired of it and took down the statues. Then there were benches, and yes, they got painted. No more benches. Now each school has a big rock. The opposing school upperclassmen paint that rock. There must be 50 coats of paint on all those rocks. I know it's sad that they painted a memorial to a classmate. Maybe that rock wasn't supposed to be painted over. Possibly a plaque saying it's a memorial might help.

@nana59 That really is so stupid and typical of teenage behaviour.  They think they're  being rebels.  But more are like your granddaughter doing what's right.  These kind of memorials are important to them at that age.  Sad about the loss of her friend,so young.

@nana59   try to cap off your day with the comforting thought that your granddaughter did the right thing.  you must be very proud.
