I asked them to not allow them to resurface in the first place, after a certain amount of time they should be purged.

@Shelbelle

You think old threads should be purged just because YOU don't like them?

What if someone is trying to find an old recipe or conversation?

All you have to do is simply check the date ... not that difficult to do that .....  easy peasy.

@Shelbelle  Something I don't get is why, when I search for the Days of Our Lives thread, in the suject box are at least 3 DAYS topics. One day by mistake I clicked on a 2010 title!!! I couldn't believe what I was reading! Then I realized I was reading something from 14 years ago? Why oh why do they keep those in the topics?

@Judaline,

 The simple answer is that the Q forums run on "canned" prepackaged software platform, it is a basic product with few bells and whistles, it is managed technically-speaking only barely enough to keep it open, and the moderators have told us they expect no new upgrades.

It's simple "programming 101" (it would take very, very little time to create and implement) to generate a process that would do a daily loop through all threads and lock all of those which (for example's sake) have no new posts in the past year...

This would preserve the old threads for us to read, and it would avoid any bumping, but adding this process isn't  part of this platform, and they're not likely to add any customization.

@dooBdoo

Personally, I think presrving the old threads, even if locked, is important.

Who is it hurting?

If anyone is so frustrated by old threads popping up, I seriously have to wonder why they don't bother to CHECK THE DATES.   How difficult is that?

Not that I dont like them, just that I think things such as this should have a purge date, and I do have the right to voice my opinion just like you do !!! If someone is looking for an old redipe, they can easily ask for it here in a new post. easy peasy !! We are free to request things here  and make suggestions, up to the mods to make the decision. Not up to you or to me. Your ideas are no better than mine and vice versa. I think of it as good common sense.

Some threads never go away either. Old and stale.

Get unburied and dredged up again.

Landfill them and drop the subject.

@Shelbelle

Very often the poster of the old/orginal thread is no longer here....some have even passed away.

I have been on the recipe boards long enough to know of a whole list of contributors that are no longer here!

So you can NOT just start a new thread looking for an older recipe you know was here.

You can hope those that have been here a long time may have saved that same recipe, but you have no guarantees on that.  Sometimes all we remember are the ingredients!!  The search function helps us !  I have used it many times to find a recipe I remember.

I see absolutely no reason to delete or lock anything and Def Not purge unless the mods deem it against standards.

ITA, it can be very helpful.   Obviously, not everyone who has ever been here is still here.

Perhaps the OP doesn't understand all the ways old threads can be referenced.  However, just to claim "I don't like them so I don't think you should be able to use them" is rather ... odd.

JMO, of course.

Re: Very Old Threads Being Resurfaced

@dooBdoo - Thank you for explaining that. I will try to pay more attention to the dates on threads. I think I've "bumped" up a thread only once - out of respect for the original poster who was still an active poster in many threads.

I will, however, continue to look at older threads for advice.   Smiley Happy

You're welcome, @beach-mom, and thank you for your post.❤️  I look at older threads, also, and I'm glad they're still here for us to read. 😊

I agree.

It's like every post ever posted is able to be brought back.

why does it bother you so much? so old threads are resurrected; who cares? if it bothers you so much DON'T READ IT
