I see so many posters, saying they won't feel comfortable being out and  about, until a vaccine is available and there is wide spread testing.

Regarding the vaccine, I wonder, when one is released, will you be eager to get the shot? Do you get the annual flu vaccine, now?

I read an article, about the possibility of the next flu season, being worse, with outbreaks of both, Covid 19, and the regular influenza.  The article made the point of how important it will be, for people to get vaccinated against influenza, since it will be possible to get both viruses, and it's unlikely a Covid-19 vaccine will be out that soon.

Imagine how much worse the strain, on the medical community, could be, with two viruses, in full swing.
The thought of, especially, vulnerable folks, getting both viruses, is truly scary.

I always get the flu shot, I would welcome a Covid vaccine, and, if I developed influenza, I would definitely make use, of the anti virals, that are available.

Thoughts?

Hi @SuhseK - we were discussing this last night.  We always get the flu shot - usually very early in the season.  When a vaccine is released for this, we'll be very eager to get that.

I have never had a bad reaction from an annual flu shot, so I will probably continue to get them.  If a COVID-19 vaccine is available, I will weigh the information from all sources and make a decision.

I have COPD and always get a flu shot, so I'll get the other also, when available. I wonder though, it usually takes years and years for meds to be developed and then okayed by the FDA, so how will they get this out and be sure it's right?

Re: Vaccine Question

[ Edited ]

My answer would have to be a no "at this time" as to date, I have NOT been tested.  I need to know my status FIRST.  I already know I am a potential serial killer just not a confirmed one.

I have never had the flu, so I never had a flu shot - I don't fix nothing that ain't broke.

As w/this current virus, there is NO cure for the flu.

The common cold is a covid virus.  No cure.  But, the symptoms can be treated.  As the old saying goes, "you can send a man to the moon but, can't cure a cold?"

Like the previous poster I have thankfully never had the flu and have never gotten a flu shot.  I read that last year's flu vaccine was less than 50% effective.  Also under the impression that it takes awhile to develop, test and get approval for vaccines.  I won't hold my breath.

Most opinions are pretty set in stone already so it will be interesting so what the fate of unvaccinated will be.  Maybe the surviving naturalized immune will have better survival.

I almost died of the flu in my 20s and had serious medical problems from it into my 30s.  I get a flu shot.

I will get my annual flu vaccine in late October.  I'd be leery of a COVID vaccine that suddenly popped up this fall.

People keep likening the opening up of states as the canary in the coal mines.  I have to agree somewhat.  Some of the restrictions are a bit over the top though. Lawn care personal comes to mind.

I feel the same way about a vaccine.  Not saying I would never get it, but I certainly wouldn't be the first in line.  We never get the flu shot.  It always seems to be a year behind, strainwise. Neither of our doctors have pushed us to get one.
