Re: Update on Missing Neighbor

@Icegoddess. Ok, that makes sense. Why didn't you tell us this from the first post?

Re: Update on Missing Neighbor

I never said the cars they left were their only cars.  I'm sure there are other things I didn't think to include.

@Icegoddess  Mail on hold = creditors at bay.  Expensive car = unpaid car loan with all notifications sitting at the Post Office.  Someone is a CON ARTIST.

Re: Update on Missing Neighbor

IDK, he's had that car since shortly after they bought that house in 2012.  Should've been paid off by now.  Now, the new car could be a different story.  Also, would a con artist put that much physical labor into yard upkeep? Maybe.  The back yard is a mess and luckily they didn't even bother uncovering the swimming pool this year.  The pump apparently doesn't work and it was a swamp last year.  But, they did at least keep the front yard in pristine condition, including pressure washing not only the driveway and sidewalk, but also the curb.

Re: Update on Missing Neighbor

If the postman left their mail, why not have a look through it. There could be a return address on a personal letter or perhaps some other name to whom it's addressed?

That's a felony. Leave the mail alone.

Re: Update on Missing Neighbor

I didn't suggest stealing their mail or opening it. Just looking at the address is not a felony. Imagine being arrested and charged for looking at an address especially under the circumstances. Nonsense times a thousand.

Opening someone's mailbox, taking out their mail, and looking at it could be viewed as potentially tampering with mail, which indeed is a felony. It doesn't have to be stolen or opened to be a crime, and it would be taken seriously if she was caught or reported.  She would be questioned, it would be investigated, etc..  If any mail was missing, she would be suspected of having stolen it.  It could turn into a mess.  And she also could be arrested for trespassing.

Not to mention that it's an immoral thing to do.

"Especially under the circumstances" indicates that the police should become involved, not that a neighbor should be doing investigating of this type on her own.  What's in their mail - even what's simply written on the envelopes - is not her business, and there are laws in place to prevent people from taking it upon themselves to look at someone else's mail.

Re: Update on Missing Neighbor

I'm really surprised this thread isn't filled with 'mind your own business' replies, as is usual when people post things like this about neighbors.

I know I would certainly be wondering.

I'd say to act on that wonder would be wrong though, as they did (or someone did) put a stop to their mail and put the cars in the usual "we are gone" location.

Funny thing is, that even if/when they return, it is likely no one will know what was up, if they tend to keep to themselves so much.

I would hope nothing bad has happened. Not a horrible crime even, but like mentioned, hope they are healthy and fine.

That's it.  They're in the witness protection program!!!!   I'd be very careful where I stick my nose in other people's business.  Woman LOL
