Update on Mardi Gras Tragedy

Thankfully, no one has died as a result of this incident.  The driver of the auto was a 25 year old from Louisiana, whose blood - alcohol level was

three times the legal limit.  He has been retained in jail with bail set at $125,000.  Seems too low to me.  He has been charged with "two counts of first degree negligent injuring, plus one count apiece of hit and run driving causing serious injury, and wrecklace operation" according to the New Orleans Advocate newspaper.

He should be tried and jailed, imo.  Crack down on drunk drivers, and I mean jail time, no slap on the wrist.

He's lucky no one died. When that kind of crash happened here during SXSW, 4 people died. The driver was sentenced to life in prison

My guess based on what I've seen over the years: pay a fine, community service.

Re: Update on Mardi Gras Tragedy

Mardi Gras - a 'celebration' I'd never participate in although all of our friends would love this.  Drinking from sun up to sun down and then some, I could not, would not do.  Yes, I have a couple of drinks when we get together but certainly not to excess, never.

I HATE the feeling of being drunk.  I HATE throwing it down and then throwing it all back up.

It's a disgusting thing to be drunk or on the verge of.  Our friends don't mind drinking to excess although they don't most times.  In years past they've gone so far as to call me unsociable because they knew me to have a drink or two, then I totally stopped (because of DH) and then I chose to have a drink or two in present time.  They're nicer to me when I drink but that is NOT at all the reason I chose to drink one or two again.

I was brought up in a family who did not drink.  My DH is from a family of alcoholics (4 of them, mom, dad and a brother).  Only one of them (his bro) finally many yrs ago picked up for drunk driving one last time that made his light bulb go off and has been a very faithful goer to AA.  I'm proud and thankful for that of him.

DH has WAY curbed his habit some years ago.  He too had been picked up a few times for drunk driving and I'm sure spending a full weekend in the county jail made him think twice.

Looks like a similar incident in Gulf Shores, Alabama today.  Van versus crowd.  Parade canceled.

Re: Update on Mardi Gras Tragedy

There's absolutely no justification and I no longer like to boogie 'till I puke either, but one has to consider he's 25, he's from Louisiana and it is Mardi Gras. He and his victims are more lucky than not, as hard as that might be to believe.
