I've been to the parade several times.  It is awesome.  Please explain what a "virtual parade" will be like?  Computer generated???  Wouldn't it just be better to repeat a previous parade?

Well, no Christmas outside things there either, or ball drop, or large tree.  We'll be waiting another year.  That will remain to be seen too.  But those are outside things, we need to take care of each other and get this sickness on the run too.  People matter first.

No school bands.

Large balloons will be not be handled by the usual 80-100 people.  Instead, some type of anchoring device will be used.

The events that will happen will be recorded in different parts of the city.

They will be staged away from the usual 2 mile route.

Social distancing will be observed over the 2 day staging events.

I assume there will be usual yakkity-yak hosts in some studio hosting the event.  LOL

I've never been but always watched on TV.

As long as that obnoxious Elf on the Shelf balloon isn't shown, I'm good.  LOL

Sad, though, for all the business that will be lost and for those who bought reservations, etc. last year to attend.

@Porcelain :  I like your idea of setting up a stationary parade.  Years ago we went to Rose Parade in Pasadena and then went back the next day to view the stationary floats (with actors onboard); I actually enjoyed the stationary parade more!

Events commemorating the Holiday season are being canceled all over the country. Our city here in Texas as basically canceled all events including The Holiday River Parade .....I wonder if the city will even bother to light up the River Walk....Just like that Christmas Show, "A Year Without A Santa Claus"....😥................

@AuntG Thw under 10 crowd would know better than the adults- at least my kids when they were under 10 would spot it in an instant!  They just might be more resistant to saying anything.

From what I can gather on the local and national news, the "parade" will all take place in front of Macy"s over a two day period. Numbers from Broadway show, balloons   to cars and floats attached to cars and oh yes Santa too.

It's all so sad. 

Our local town and the community next to ours have also canceled their holiday parades.  Both the Philadelphia Thanksgiving and Mummers' New Years day parades are also canceled this upcoming season.

Macy's made the right decision.  Everything has been different since this pandemic hit.  Are we happy with the changes....NO.  However, keeping people safe is far better for our Country.  At the point, we have lost more than 190,000 lives.  Actual scientific data is telling us that this virus will escalate significantly if Americans ignore the warnings. 

Rerun an earlier parade and keep people safe.
