Update On Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Well, it's official, the parade will be entirely virtual. This coronavirus is sucking the joy out of everything.

@Jordan2

Did you seriously think they would allow 15 marching bands from out of state to come to NYC and allow crowds of 10 deep to watch the parade.

It was previously announced that the Parade would be re imagined similar to the way the fireworks took place small venues and no crowds

We can still find joy in watching virtually.

They could rerun one from  previous year and the under ten crowd wouldn't even know the difference. It would irresponsible to have a parade this year.

@I am still oxox no I didn't think there were going to be marching bands, but maybe a couple of the balloons, some floats you could ride being socially distant. I feel bad for the children, and you know Santa shows up at the end. I hope Santa is taking care of himself, he won't be very busy this holiday season, I doubt he'll be in the malls having children sit on his lap.

It will be a loss to the local economy too.  No hotel rooms, lunches, new costumes etc.

i think virtual is better than nothing at all. we can still enjoy that and hope that next year, life will be back to normal.

Re: Update On Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

I figured it out. Here's what they should do. Hold a reverse parade.

Make the parade stationary. And have people drive past it. Set up the parade in a big long line the way it would be normally, maybe in a fairground. And then for a set period of time, have everyone on the floats waving (responsibly socially distanced and masked etc) and everything turned on and musicians playing, and have people drive past it in their cars.

WTH is a virtual parade?

How do you even do a virtual parade unless all they are going to do a CGI parage?
