Good grief your not eating that food so why do you care? Its a show for petes sake. Anyway the lid does not touch the food and it gets hot enough to kill any germs or bacteria.

Maybe we should all stop eating?![]()

I guess some people need to live in a bubble by themselves so they don't get germs from anyone.

I see it all the time on the Food Network.
I watched Sandra Lee use raw chicken tongs to take cooked chicken out of the pan, double dipping on Chopped, flying hair on Cupcake Wars.

On all of the cooking shows I have seen on the Food Network, the chefs use unwashed berries right from the clamshell package.
i guess no one has died yet.

@millieshops wrote:@LyzzAs long as the cooks in the restaurant where I'm going for dinner tonight don't do that, I'm okay.
Do people do that in real life where the food is actually going to be eaten? I hope not, but I suspect lots of food on all sort of food shows, magazine shots, etc. is not fit for consumption for many reasons.
@millieshops - I'm with you! Magazine photos switch shaving cream for whipped cream because it holds out better under the lights, use blowtorches to brown meats, and replace maple syrup with motor oil on pancakes. There are loads of tricks and secrets they use to make your food look better.

I watched the video of the presentation and did not find the incident as egregious as OP made it sound. The vendor placed the edge of a domed lid on the floor and rested the remainder of the domed lid against a table leg.. No part of the domed lid came in contact with the food on the grill.

Good grief....I've done the same thing many times, hubby has done it many times, my dear dad did it many times. And guess what - I'm alive and well, and never got sick. The rim of the lid never touched the food. The heat of the grill is very hot. Sorry to offend some folks here, but if this is unsanitary to you, then obviously you won't do it. Personally, I'm 71 and haven't become sick from this same practice for about 65 years that I can remember!
