I guess I'm a tad confused about the neighbors wanting to protect their children. 10 years - those kids are pretty much grown by now.

This reads as though the neighbors are just now complaining - unless they are new to the neighborhood.

There used to be a welcoming neighborhood group called "Getting to Know You" - can't get to know your neighbor much more than that. ROTLF!
