Re: Unbelievable! (prescriptions)

Addicts come in all sizes, shapes, ages. Someone who doesn't know you can't tell by just looking whether or not you're abusing these drugs (and I'm using "you" in the generic sense).

Yeah, it's a bit of a pain. But if it helps prevent addicts and dealers from obtaining these drugs, I'm okay with it.

The drug abusers have no trouble at all getting their fixes. The people who legitimately need controlled substances have to jump through hoops.

They MUST follow the laws in your state. They don't do these things to make you mad - they are constrained by the law. And the law is cracking down on pain clinics because of the abuses. I can absolutely guarantee you that if you get a 30 day Rx then they can not refill it until that day - and not one day early.

Not always true. I call in scripts up to 5 days ahead and can still get them without being held until the exact day. And that is at CVS.

Those aren't narcotics.

It also depends on your insurance carrier, in the past I could get refills before the 30 days are up, but my last two carriers will not allow any prescriptions (including nexium and nasonex) to be filled even one day before the 30 days. It is a real hassle if I will be traveling at refill time.

Please! Showing someone your driver's license is signing your life away? They don't know who's cooking meth.

You are not just showing your driver's license, at least not in my state. The pharmacies have to turn the list over to the state. In theory, the state is comparing lists looking for frequent users. I doubt if that is happening.

Can you take the prescription to wallgreens and why can't your doctor send your script by electronic mail to the pharmacy.

In some states certain narcotics can't be done electronically or called in. For instance, oxycodone can not be called in, you must have a paper script but hydrocodone can be done electronically.

What I don't understand is I had hydrocodone done electronically when I called my obgyn for pain meds right before a procedure I was having done to help with fibroid tumors but last week I was diagnosed with pneumonia and was given a script for Tussionex (cough syrup which also contains hydrocodone) but that had to be a paper script. What is the difference?

I got a paper script once for vicodin and my doctor told me to fill it at the drugstore right away because the paper scripts for controlled medications has a short window and that was 3 or 4 years ago.

I my state PA, my Son got this drug for major dental pain. The scrip could not be called in, it had to be on actual RX paper, and I also had to have another form from the DDS. with it. Then it had to be filled on the day the Rx was written, or it became void.

I know the laws are in place due to abuse, etc. But I really feel bad for those in chronic pain and need their Meds Daily!!! They are not doing anything wrong, just trying to live with their pain. So Sad.

Pain killers cannot be sent electronically in my state, nor can they be called in. You must have the paper prescription and be in person. This is my state, not sure if it is state or federal law.

Re: Unbelievable! (prescriptions)

Our local CVS has had signs posted about this change for over a month now. Regardless of how companies try to change policies to crack down on misuse of narcotics, it always seems to affect the patients with legitimate chronic pain issues the most. Am very sorry you are caught in the midst of this Shorty.
