YIKES! I understand this is the busy season but I had one package stuck in USPS New Jersey Distribution Center for six days and another three days moving to the next destination. Still not delivered (or tracking system updated). Still shows moving to next destination. A couple of QVC deliveries turned over to USPS by UPS and it's been three or more days and status still not updated by Post Office, and again, no package delivery. I half expect them to show up some day without system being updated but this is crazy.
Luckily none were Christmas presents but still unacceptable delivery times. And I am in Chicago, not like these packages are traveling across country.

@naturalfan. The d3livery services are in chaos right now. We hav3 no choice but to be patient.
A new thing here are after dark, late deliveries by USPS. I'm disgusted with them. I'm not walking out in the dark to get stuff out of my unlocked rural mailbox. There are skunks, raccoons, tons of coyotes, bobcats....you get the picture, and I have balance issues.

@Kachina624I don't even like getting these late deliveries on my suburban front porch! I worry about the two-legged critters who might take my package if it sits out there all night. It would help if they knocked or rang the doorbell, but they don't. Good judgement on your part, not to risk going out to your mailbox after dark.

I am just appreciative of all the people working so hard to get our things to us. I can imagine the pressure they under, especially with subs working and not being real sure of how it all goes, traffic, late hours, having to go up to homes in the dark, not knowing who lives there or do they have dogs loose, etc. Thieves are out for porch packages, and postal trucks have been robbed.
An amazon driver I think about 20 years was killed on I-35 a few days ago--he ran under a semi on that busy busy stretch of narrow road. Horrific accident. So I just pray for safety of all getting and delivering packages.

@Sooner This certainly puts things in perspective doesn't it?

I am not 100% sure but I think the USPS will not deliver and hold a package for you to pick up if you request that service.

I have a high respect for my UPS man who delivers quite often to my house. He carries heavy and awkward type of packages to my front door and always rings the doorbell. I give all these people credit for their hard work.
I gave my driver a Christmas gift of a tin of Waggoner's candy to thank him. He was very appreciative.
I just give thanks that I don't have to go pick up some of these things.

What type of mail was it? Parcel Post? First Class? Priority?
If it was parcel post, it's the lowest priority mail. If a post office is crazy busy like they are at holidays, parcel post will sit until they can get to it.

I would not want to walk to a mailbox in the dark either.
I often get mail and UPS after 7pm. I set it up so UPS notifies me of a delivery so I usually know within 1-3 minutes. I have a Ring camera out front so I'm notified if mail comes late.
Recently, the U.S. Postmaster talked to congress about changing delivery goals all year long...meaning slower mail no matter how it's sent.
