Just a comment here. I haven't read this thread because its sounds depressing. Twilight sounds like you are sitting around waiting to die. I look at retirement as a chance to do what I want, not what some company has told me to do for the past 40 years. For me its Sunrise time.

depglass,
This thread has nothing to do with sitting around waiting to die. In my OP I said the reason I called it Twilight Time was because the ladies that use to be on our old thread a couple of years ago all met here in the wee hours thus twilight time. Also because it was the name of my favorite song Twilight Time by the Platters.
None of the ladies that post here are sitting around waiting to die.
"Twilight Time"

lakk
did you see, i was talkin to ya back in post #287, before we were interrupted -
she didn't even bother to read any of the original post, let alone any of this thread, and she likely wouldn't read any response either, so ...while she can have her own opinion, she is basing it on wrong assumptions, and why does a person bother to comment on a thread when they don't even know what it's about and don't want to know ?!
she can have change back for her '2 cents'. no offense to the poster, but it rubbed me the wrong way, at least read the original post before stopping by to pass judgement.
the sun may rise every day, but for me, i know i am in my 'twilight' years anyhow, just a fact. i am very grateful to be retired and able to make our own schedules, mainly working around our busy kids lives and medical appointments ! but it is wonderful to have that flexibility that was absent for decades.
i also enjoy that song 'twilight time'- a few decades ago, i used to listen to music on wabc radio in ny- every year they had a massive radio poll to choose the top 100 rock songs of all time - and every year, the same song was voted #1 - another platters tune, 'in the still of the night'- another oldie but goodie even now. that music sure has held up alot better then i have.

Shosh,
I overlooked your post #287, forgive me. I'm trying very hard not to comment why! LOL
I'm so sorry about your grandmother I wish you could have been around her. I had both of mine in my life. Dad's mom was my rock and I miss her every single day. Mother's mom lived with us for 44 years after we were all in a car wreck and my 14 year old aunt was killed. I was only 4 and was sitting in the back seat with her and my brother but I was old enough to remember her and loved and miss her. But my grandmother mourned for the next 43 years and I rarely saw a smile on her face. It was so sad to watch her go through that and it's very difficult to live in the house with somebody like that. That's why I have tried not to be that way around other people after losing my son 6 years ago. Now I know how she felt but you can't make everyone around you miserable just because your going through something, the rest of the family goes through it too.
Daddy's mom was my life I loved that woman with every bone in my body, I miss her everyday. She was a straight laced lady, always wore dresses and heels and you knew where she stood on every subject. She told it like it was, so to speak. Sunday School teacher for 30 years at the same church, she was a housewife, never worked and was always there for everyone. If she wasn't at church or something church related or the grocery she was usually at home on the phone calling round to see how her sick friends were doing. She raised her niece (my Alabama cousin) from age 1 as her mother died. No matter what she was doing when somebody arrived she dropped everything and would sit for hours talking to you. She was truly a gift to us from God. I wish I could have been half the woman she was, I never left her house that I didn't feel better for being there. I wish you could have known your grandmother, Shosh.
You mentioned the flashlights, I still use mine every single day they're in every room of this house and I still have a whole box (I think it came with 6 in the box) in the closet I've never opened. I love 'em.
Let me see how I can say this delicately...the singer we were talking about...I like his music too but in this album the last song has some colorful language in it so I won't be plugging it. I think there was another word in one other song too, it's common language these days but I don't think I've heard that word in a song before. Four letter word begins with an 's'. Just uncalled for in my opinion.
Speaking of The Platters they were my favorite group, I've never heard a bad song out of them.
Last week was too busy for me, I'm usually not out that much. I spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday trying to get 2 new pair of glasses, it's a long story I won't go into now. Well briefly(lol) I happened to be so 'lucky' I went on a day a new doctor was on duty for her first day! grrrrr I was there 4 hours that day and there was only one other person to be seen, he gave up and left. Plus the a/c in the building was out and they had fans everywhere. I went back Friday to pick them up and I said "just give them to me they'll be fine and I'm gone" only to get home hours later after running errands to see they were both flawed. One of the lens was not even securely in the frame and I couldn't get it back in for fear of breaking something. So I went back yesterday.
I finally bought some flowers and put a bunch of dianthus in my planter boxes on the deck last night nearing 8 pm. racing to beat darkness. I had some in them that have come up again that are 2 years old. My son called and talked for about 30 minutes but I wouldn't stop I was trying to hold the phone on my shoulder and plant at the same time. I was determined to finish them last night.
I've been to Walgreens, CVS, Subway the grocery and all the above plus a few other places this past week and I'm going to take a break today. I got the laundry caught up yesterday too and cooked some more squash and onions (love them) and fixed some more corn for the freezer. Oh I got 2 of the best tomatoes at the little vegetable/fruit/flower stand where I got the dianthus the other day. I never have put out any tomatoes plants but I bought one down there I think I'm going to plant today, maybe I'll get some before a freeze comes, if I hurry. LOL
I spent most of yesterday sitting here looking up some family history for my cousin that she requested and last night looking up info on 7 different hotels in town (location, rates and availability) for a friend and got that e-mail sent. I did take a break when my DGS mowed and came in to chat a while. He had just returned from a Fla. trip with his girlfriend and her parents so I wanted to hear all about their trip.
I'm sending back the 2 D & C shirts I got, while most everything runs larger these are so short they barely cover my naval and they are too tight. I can't remember when I've sent something back but I'd rather lose the 6.95 postage than to keep them knowing I won't wear them and throw away 31.53 more.
Dennis Basso just had on some pretty scarves but I have enough for now so I'm going to ignore them. I think I'm going make a few myself, it can't be that difficult! I'll let you know how they turn out, probably right after I hem those 2 pair of pants that have been sitting here for 2 years!
I have to tell you one more thing. My cousin wrote that she and her Dh went somewhere, he ran in for 'a minute' while she sat in the car. It was early evening but still hot outside. She said he stayed talking for an hour. I wrote her and said "your going to have all the jewels in your crown one day and there won't be any left for the anyone else if you sat in that heat for an hour." She wrote back " Oh my dear don't worry your little self about me I just ran the a/c the whole time. He'll think twice next time, we were in the Hummer so I probably used $50.00 gas!" LOL She's a hoot.
Take care.

Ladies,
I hope everyone is well and happy enjoying this beautiful weather. It's 74 here approaching midnight, showers lurking a couple of counties away but that's o.k. the house doesn't leak so all is well.
Not a great deal going on here since last I wrote except I got stung by a bee. I went to the mailbox the other day in sandals as I always do and coming in the bottom of my foot began to sting. The dead bee was under my foot in my shoe, so I gave him a water burial down the commode and proceeded to get the stinger out of my foot.
It's been a good day, short because I stayed up all night and half the morning doing some online research then slept until 3 pm. but all in all a good day. The main reason is my youngest DS drove up to visit a while and my DIL held down the fort at the bookstore this afternoon.
While my son was here I mentioned buying some readers from QVC that arrived today. He wanted to see them as he sells some in the bookstore, he was very impressed with them as I am and he got the info and may get some from this company where they were made to sell in the store. I saw Carolyn Gracie present them the other day and decided to get them and they are marvelous. They are sturdy and the fit is perfect. They are the set of 6 (A230996) Pretty Patterns Readers by Hummingbird. Some of them are multi colored but that's o.k. after all they are just readers so I don't care what they look like. They are working perfectly for me seeing this computer. I had just bought a pair of Foster Grant this week at the drugstore and paid 10.00 for them and they will be in a drawer never to be used again. Just thought I'd pass this on, these readers are fabulous. Very good purchase. I got the +2.50 strength and they work well for me.
Got a note from my cousin yesterday seems she needed to run some errands that required her to get on US Hwy 41. She and her DH got in the car and immediately got into a traffic jam because of the yard sale that goes from Indiana to Tennessee. He said after sitting for some time, "think I'll get a chair out of the truck and sit you out here and see what you'll go for. " LOL He's a hoot but he's a sweetheart.
I'm going to close and hope everyone has a lovely day tomorrow. Take care.

Hello ladies,
I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather. It's just 65 right now but suppose to be in the 90's later today. We've had rain around us but none here lately. My DGS mowed the yard June 29th and it still looks like he just mowed it's actually looking brown in places and of course I'm having to water the deck flowers a lot.
Not a great deal going on here, I've been running errands and catching up on things I've put off for ages. I've had a birthday and gotten older since last I wrote and I feel every day of it! I had visits, gifts and cards but thank heavens nobody gave me candy. I kept thinking how nice it was then I decided it wasn't all that grand so I made myself a fudge pie a few days later and eventually ate it all by myself!
The 4th was stressful as some neighbors (that are always trouble) were drinking several days and nights in their front yard. They did go to their backyard to shoot fireworks for over 3 solid hours, shooting them into everyone else's yards on the cars and into everyone's trees. They set their own yard on fire twice (nothing major) and had to put it out and it sounded like bombs not fireworks. Most of us had about all we could take and several of us finally called the police. Actually not buying them but shooting them in the city is against the law here. Of course as it turned out the minute we all called the police they stopped shooting them. The police did go tell them it was against the law, naturally they said they didn't know it. Right! They don't abide by any other laws here so we should not have been surprised. OK I've vented now I'll hush about it.
My son called last night and said his friend (former pastor here that now has a church in Fla.) was outside working in his yard the other day and was wearing shorts. He said his neighbor hollered at him and told him he'd seen better legs on a chair! LOL
Take care ladies.

Hello ladies
I heard from Banker today she's fine just busy, her Dh's medical problems are many and ongoing. Just getting him to and from the doctors is a challenge, bless her heart, she has a lot on her.
I went over to Gamers tonight for a few minutes, I can't believe I use to play over there for hours, somehow it just wasn't the same tonight. I guess I'm spoiled playing online games that go much faster.
I have a review, I bought a Steel by Design bracelet that arrived today and it's beautiful, I love it. (J293735)
My South Carolina school friend was suppose to be here week after next and she called tonight to tell me she's been in doctors offices having test for the last 3 days. She thought she was having a heart attack they have put her through all the test. She has to go back Monday for some more results but flying here alone may not happen. She's already been through knee surgery twice this year but of course doesn't want to get this far from home and end up in the hospital. Very good friends live only 2-3 doors from her so she's always better off at home. We're all getting old and just don't like to admit it. LOL
My cousin lives in a small town and she's at the church doing numerous things all the time and her husband takes care of repairs and etc. so they are there a lot. The other day she saw some flowers outside needed watering. They hide the outside faucet handle behind some rocks so the neighborhood children won't turn on the water and leave it running. She started searching for the handle and couldn't find it. She ran inside and ask the pastor did he know where it was, he went out to help her find it. She said "your not gonna find it I've looked everywhere, if you find it I'll kiss your fanny." He found it...they laughed and he went back inside. When she started to leave she hollered in the door to tell him she was gone and he hollered back "you owe me one!" LOL
I think I'll hit the hay, I've been on the phone a lot, my school friend and then I talked to mother's sister tonight and my grandson is in North Carolina on business and he called and talked tonight so my jaws are tired. My orange sherbet and ginger ale are calling my name, and I see the Gaither's are on tv so I'll watch that and stop rambling.
Take care ladies. ( and if you don't start posting I'm going to run away from home.)

Hello to everyone. I haven't been on here in awhile and I see that Lakk is going to run away from home. Please don't do that unless you run down here and we can load up the car and take off to FL. Does that sound like a plan? It does to me.
I have been busy with this and that, and our ac went out on Sunday night, and Monday was a nightmare. We called 4 places and everyone was busy, so we decided which one called first would be the one to come out. I ran to Lowe's and bought a small window unit, but it just wasn't big enough to cool our den which is pretty big, but it was almost just to the point where you could stand it. I put sheets on both doorways to get what little cool was coming out of the unit. DH had 3 fans on him and was still sweating. The poor dogs weren't much better. Finally at 5:15 someone called and he came out and fixed it with 2 new parts, but told us to start budgeting because it was on it's last leg. So we are going to try to make it until cooler weather, and get a new heat pump. We have backup heat, but no back up ac but the little window unit I bought. So I guess I will be getting a new heat pump for Christmas, birthday, etc. LOL
Lakk, wishing your friend good luck with her health problems. Praying that she gets better.
Your cousin is such a hoot. She needs to be on TV. She is better than the people I have seen lately. Most are so vulgar that it makes me sick to my stomach to listen to them and of course, the channel is changed.
Oh yes, Happy Late Birthday. I had one also recently and I am now up to 3 a year or so it seems. But I know that I am luckier than some, so I won't complain.
I only read just a few posts, and see that Shosh posted recently, so a big howdy to you. Hope you are staying out of trouble.
Need to go and be a productive person today. Maybe it won't be another long time before I post again. DH has to go to 2 doctors on Monday, so that will be a long day. Later...

Banker,
Hello lady, I was roaming around the boards and just saw you were here. Bless your heart if you didn't have bad luck you'd have no luck at all. I'm holding my breath with my a/c too it's 13 years old and I know one day I'm going to be making another big purchase.
Nothing going on around here thankfully, it was rather quiet across the street tonight. They're probably resting up for a big weekend. I'll just keep the curtains shut as usual and turn up Haggard and Jones and live with it, can't do much else about it and the cops aren't going to do anything about them.
Yes my dear cousin keeps me sane and laughing I don't know how I could live without her.
I'm not going to ramble on tonight I have some e-mails to answer but when I do decide to run away from home your house will be my first stop. We can run on down to Fla., you can leave Dh a note and the remote, he'll be fine. LOL
Take care.

I sat here and wrote for an hour and it went to cyber heaven so I shall make this shorter.
The weather has been in the mid 80's we actually broke a record low of 58 for July yesterday morning but it's going to heat up this weekend, the mild breaks have been lovely.
My DGS and DGD (twins) are 16 today, how did I get this old? They are not even my oldest grandchildren.
My South Carolina school friend did make it here, poor soul the flight here and the one back were both delayed 2 hours after she had arrived at the airport. She came to go to our class reunion and the next night to the All class Reunion and to stay here a few more days. I didn't go, I went to one in 2010 and that will last me another 50 years.
She lost her camera at one reunion and left her readers here. It's not as if she doesn't have more readers but she likes these so I went to the post office last night and mailed them to her. She called this morning to say she ordered more from QVC because she liked mine. (grrrrr) She purposely left her umbrella in my car saying she would buy another one because she didn't want to bother with it in the airport. I threatened her life but she didn't seem to care. I haven't used an umbrella in decades and don't need anything else sitting around here.
My son called the other day and arrived with my DIL and they had saws and ratcheting shears and etc. and they proceeded to cut my neighbor's tree back that has been sitting on my roof and deck, for which I am eternally grateful.
I bought the skinnytees they arrived yesterday and are being returned today. I have determined if you are 6' 8" and weigh about 100 lbs. they may be for you. I am not and they are tight and I looked like a stack of donuts, couldn't breathe and thought I was going to need the jaws of life to get out of them.
You know you can't fix stupid and I probably shouldn't tell this on myself but I will. I had a Joan Rivers ladybug watch I couldn't open to put the new battery in so I decided to take it and a watch that belonged to mama to have them changed. Mama's is very nice I can't describe it here for several reasons but dad had it made for her shall we say to amend for many years of misdeeds! LOL It's lovely. I have had mama's for 9 years but she passed away 6 years ago so I thought I might wear it. The gentleman behind the counter was very nice and because I bought some other things in there was not charging me to install the battery in the ladybug watch. He picked up mama's watch and said "Honey this doesn't use a battery it's a WIND UP!" NINE YEARS and all I had to do is WIND IT UP! LOL
I'm going to see if I can find my way to the kitchen all by myself and get some orange sherbet and ginger ale and hit the hay for a while as I have been up all night. If I don't return in a few days you'll know I'm still looking for the fridge.
Take care.
