We typically only eat the turkey breast so I buy two Butterball breasts every year...however, I have a 20 lb bird in my freezer that I got for free last year for racking up 300$ in groceries over a specific time period. I was going to go ahead and cook it but I'm wondering if it's not lost some flavor. I don't know about using it. Internet says its alright. Anyone ever cook a bird that's been in deep freeze for a year?

Agree! When it comes to holiday dinners and holidays we don't worry about it unless it's really outrageous.
We look forward to these special times. I am fortunate we don't have to worry about things like others.

This is the first time in years that I can remember the local grocery stores in my area not offering a free turkey after accumulating points.

we were out playing trivia tonight at the restaurant we play at every week. the first thing our server told us is that we have nothing on the menu that says turkey. they are having a major issue getting turkeys and said they may have to change their entire menu for thanksgiving.

After hearing for weeks there would be no turkeys for Thanksgiving this year, stores are starting to put them into the freezer cases; seem to be lots of them but the prices are very high. I guess it shouldn't be surprising. I may go on and buy a Turkey breast for just the two of us.

I think they may need to adjust their expectations on what is available, and whether people have money left to donate. Maybe they should encourage people to donate pork roast (although I know some people don't eat pork because of their religion).
I only have myself, I can easily do chicken, or ground turkey meatloaf.
And of course, if all else fails, maybe we can all try Marie's tofu turkey.I loved that show.
That was a good one. Loved it.

My turkey is coming from my employer. Thank goodness. I already starting buying stuff to make the sides. I grabbed some stuff on sale early. I never like to wait until the last minute.

I love a bargain, but if I want it I will get it. Same here. It is the holidays and I expect to blow money. Reason I have my Xmas fund and deposited every November 1st in to my checking account. I save for special things going on all year long so I can enjoy when the time comes.

Support the little guys ladies. Find a local independent store or a turkey farm and purchase from them. I placed my order from a local turkey farm yesterday, prices no higher than I have been paying. And I had to search around our farms for one that wasn't already sold out!

I'm in Florida, and I went into Walmart, yesterday. They had Jenny-O turkeys for $.98/lb and Butterballs were $1.19/lb. I would expect stores to start offering their Thanksgiving specials soon. I'll bet they have some at $.79/lb or less.
