Re: Trying to Improve My Time and Money Spending

As far as clothing @GingerHead , just think how someone out there can enjoy the clothing that you donate.  Someone out there can can wear it and put it to good use instead of hanging in your closet for years.

I try to think like this when I feel bad for getting rid of clothing that I think I may wear one day - but never do.

I love that. Great point, that may help me.

I donated my favorite pair of jeans a few years ago,  I had put on a few extra pounds.  I finally lost the weight, and still regret giving those jeans up.  🥲  I haven't found a pair that fit as good as those since.

Re: Trying to Improve My Time and Money Spending

Exactly what I need to do ! I have filled my closets with clothes I have not worn yet and they have been there for over a year. I gave away clothes to Goodwill a couple of years ago because I lost weight but I keep buying. The other day I shredded enough pieces of mail containing my name and address to fill 2 trash bags. I was throwing the mail into a large tote bag and it was filled to the top. I plan to keep cleaning out my closets and do less buying. Thanks for your post !

Re: Trying to Improve My Time and Money Spending

Tomorrow we're tackling a guest bedroom closet.  I know I have a huge plastic bin that has nothing but beach totes in it.

I buy them and then I realize they're too nice to get all sandy at the beach.  Some still have tags on them.  None have ever been to the beach....

I don't like taking them traveling either, I can't stand laying a tote or handbag on the floor in the seat in front of me or in upper storage, bleck!

I have many clothes I didn't wear this summer, but honestly, I still want them and will pull them out for next summer.  It's like a whole new wardrobe.  It's only summer clothes though that I have an abundance.

I have a long Dennis Basso coat that I'm donating to a cat rescue place in town.  It, too is taking up a large bin in another closet.

Re: Trying to Improve My Time and Money Spending

Sounds like you have a good plan for you to take better control of your life.  As for me, I wish I could say the same but instead of cluttered email for example bothering me, I just let it go....I hate paperwork of any kind.

I never was the type to read a book if the first chapter or so didn't get my attention.  I just let it go if it's not worth reading but never gave that idea a lot of thought.

There are several things that I need to be more organized and efficient with but other things I just let go if it's not worth my time or effort.

@GingerHead I “hearted” your post before you edited, but would have anyway, since that addition also describes me to a tee! 😁

I’ve got to clear out our spare room for company during the holidays and just as you mentioned, clutter cleaned out of one room is simply hidden in another. That’s the room most of my extra stuff ends up. Ugh!

Re: Trying to Improve My Time and Money Spending

I am making a big effort to get rid of tops and bottoms that I don't like to make room for things I do like to wear.  The pay-off is that now I can go to my closet and get dressed easily because it has clothes I will wear in it.

It isn't perfect but it is much better and is a work in progress.  And as I do it, I understand better the pieces that are useful and the ones that aren't.

I'm doing the same with people.  I know that sounds harsh, but I no longer wish to "pretend" I'm enjoying time with people I'd rather not spend time with.

I've done that, and it's very freeing .... my time is valuable, and mine to use ... or waste ... as I darn please.

Re: Trying to Improve My Time and Money Spending

I totally agree with you.  I love Cookbooks but realize I will have to bring them with me to Heaven if I'm going to make all these recipes.  Less is More......I am trying to learn from this phrase. My Husband passed away 3 years ago from Dementia.  I am still purging and will continue to do so as I am in a small 1 bedroom Condo but am grateful for the roof over my head.   I am enjoying the babies that are arriving in my family because precious and purity mean a lot.  I worked as an RN for many years and worked both in Oncology and the Nursery.  Everyone I sent to Heaven came back to me in the Nursery.  I said those precious babies were fresh from Heaven.  Anyway.....thinking good positive thoughts right now.  I am Blessed because I still have my Mom who is 97 years young and sharper than anyone on this Community Forum.  We talk everyday.  We laugh too.  She is up to date on everything.  Anyway, thanks for letting me share with you!!!  My Mom just became a Great Great Grandmother and was brought to tears when this precious baby showed up at her door where she lives in an Assisted Living Facility.  Ashlin is the Granddaughter of her first Grandchild......5 Generations.
