Re: Trouble sleeping? Try one of these!

Last few weeks I've been taking melatonin for help getting to sleep. With out it, I lay there and just when I begin to drift off, DH starts snoring  loudly and I'm wide awake again! UGH ):

I enjoy Sleepy time tea and it helps me relax before bed. Unfortunetly I still have to take my medication for sleep.

Re: Trouble sleeping? Try one of these!

Several years ago I developed what turned out to be eczema on my eye. So I went to the Doctor,  several who seemed perplexed by it.  By this time it had become uncomfortable and my eyelid was swollen. Finally my bohemian DD made me put a chamomile teabag on it and some aloe from one of her plants. It literally cleared up over night. Since then I drink a cup of chamomile tea before going to bed. Without fail even if I am tired.

I should of asked my DD advice before going to the doctor. I use Twinnings and I also like their night calm tea as well.

I periodically suffer from insomnia and really don't want to take pills for it, so after nosing around various people/forums I discovered some herbal teas that really seem to make a difference.

I drink two cups of tea and usually don't have a problem.  I think part of it is the tea itself, and part is that it's an evening ritual.

The first three teas can be found in any grocery, the last tea I get from Amazon/The Republic of Tea.

Celestial Seasonings:

Sleepytime Tea {plain}

Sleepytime Honey Tea

Sleepytime Vanilla

The Republic of Tea "get Some ZZZ's"

I really like all four of them and  vary the flavors.

{I also spray lavender essence on my sheets...that's supposed to be relaxing.}

@Margo Channing  The first time I drank Sleepytime, my legs were wobbly when I got  out of bed, so it obviously worked re relaxation. Smiley Happy

Hey @NoelSeven

There haven't been threads to lend themselves to off-topic 1-1 conversations....but this is the closest!

Remember about 7-8ish months ago, there was a conversation about medications & I mentioned I was on HRT, etc.? You questioned the connection between my healthy WOE & medication that is high risk. I responded I wasn't sleeping at night w/ night sweats & HRT helped...and I felt like the dangers of no sleep were higher than the dangers of HRT issues.

Well....I began to s-l-o-w-l-y wean myself from my HRT medications at that time.

If I would reduce, night sweats would return, no sleep & I would return to a higher dosage for a short period of time...but I forged on. Back & forth, slowly reducing....until today.

I'm on my last week of 25% of original dosage. Next week will be my first full week without any HRT!!  I'm crossing my fingers night sweats won't return & I can continue with good sleep!  I have several years to catch up on. Smiley Tongue

I know we don't see eye to eye on a couple of things (!), but I want to say...I read your words & took them to heart. What you said really impacted me...and with that, thank you!  Sidsmom <3

I thought everyone knew that most caffeine free type "teas" are actually herbs, flowers, etc. I didn't realize some didn't know that.

Herbal tea is also known as a "tisane."  (That's just an fyi - interesting bit of trivia.)  But not all herbal teas are sleep-inducing.

p.s.  For those who don't like the Sleepytime flavor, another chamomile tea (tisane) that has chamomile and is helpful at bedtime is Republic of Tea's Chamomile Lemon.

p.p.s.  Don't forget to limit actual caffeine intake to no later in the day than 2:00 (sometimes earlier) so you won't wake up in the middle of the night.  Caffeine later than that may not prevent you from sleeping, but it it more likely to wake you up in the wee hours if your caffeine intake continues after 2 p.m.

To y'all posting before me:

Do you participate in any sort of a workout routine?

 A while back I gave my 'overtraining testimony' (!) and I discovered a direct link to some of my sleepless/toss-turn nights to my anaerobic training.   Once I slooooowed down & began my weaning of HRT, my hormones are beginning to balance & sleep is much better.

Harder, faster, stronger, higher isn't always the best prescription for health.   HTH.

I actually sleep better the more intense my workouts are.
