I periodically suffer from insomnia and really don't want to take pills for it, so after nosing around various people/forums I discovered some herbal teas that really seem to make a difference.
I drink two cups of tea and usually don't have a problem. I think part of it is the tea itself, and part is that it's an evening ritual.
The first three teas can be found in any grocery, the last tea I get from Amazon/The Republic of Tea.
Celestial Seasonings:
Sleepytime Tea {plain}
Sleepytime Honey Tea
Sleepytime Vanilla
The Republic of Tea "get Some ZZZ's"
I really like all four of them and vary the flavors.
{I also spray lavender essence on my sheets...that's supposed to be relaxing.}

However it only works if you can stand tea, I don't care for tea. Only iced, maybe, on the hottest summer day. I opt for 1/2 a tab of melatonin instead.

sleepy time tastes bad but then again I have not had it in 20 years. Drawback of drinking before bed is you will eventually wake up to pee

Hello and how nice these work for you. I am chronic insomnia and nothing works but a pill and most of the time it does not work that good.

I used to drink tea at night (no caffeine) but I had to keep getting up in the night to use the restroom. It helped me sleep right away but after I used the restroom like 3 hours later, I would not be able to go back to sleep. So I stopped drinking the tea. I try to stay up as late as I can so I get so sleepy I fall asleep even know on the couch. I tend to sleep through the night now.

There is also a Sleepytime Extra that works really well and tastes good.
I really like Tazo's Calm tea. That always relaxes me and helps me sleep well.
I will have to to try the Republic of Tea one you mentioned- haven't tried that yet.

I wonder what it is like to sleep through the night? LOL! I am 68, and it has been 40 years I think. I remember the days I would plop in bed at night, fall sound asleep without even thinking. I would wake to an alarm, and could still sleep in a bit. Ahhhhh, sweet yout

For years, I purchased Trader Joe's, "Bedtime Tea". A few years ago they changed the name to "Well Rested Herbal Tea". This is a "Retural" for me...2 hours before I want to be asleep I will have a big mug of this tea...I go read in bed and I am normally out within the end of that 2 hour time period.
Good Luck, being sleep deprived really sucks.

@ @shoekitty:
That was an intelligent statement and was wondering when someone would bring this up, the old age subject /question of: No Sleep, since I've been here, 4 years.
I have a regular schedule I keep and try to go to sleep about the same time each night, BUT FOR OTHERS IT WILL ___TAKE MORE THAN A CUP OF TEA.
I know of so many women, on this board -from years passed by, that have asked that same question or responded to sleep to some degree.
Most as I have read, actually have to consult with their physician, then it is usually a short term solution.
If I do not have at LEAST 7 hours of sleep, my day is completely off; I can get by with 6, but my husband has to have 9-10 hours of UNinterrupted sleep.
I cannot emphasize how important a full good night's sleep really is to the entire body. Even teens are up so early now, 4am, having so many classes very early, not to forget those Sport events after school; they are totally dopey TIRED by 3pm.
