When most people decide on name for a child, they don't really want to hear other people's opinions. No matter what name you chose, someone doesn't like it. These parents obviously searched for the perfect name for their child and that's the name they came up with. So unless someone says I'm going to name my child suchandsuch, what is your honest opinion of that name, IMO people should just smile and say that's a lovely name.

There is also a trend for giving girls last names. I have neighbor girls named Cameron, Morgan and Sheridan. They are all in high school. I also have a 90-year old neighbor named Tammy - people should also think of that when they name a child.

I know a new baby named Sloane (a girl). I have NO idea where that name came from!

I've heard the name Sloane before. Someone on one of the PBS decorating shows has that name.

Could be worse. They could call her Loose.
Or kids will walk up to her and say "Hey, why the long face?"

We had a friend that when he was doing rotations during medical school he delivered babies. This one particular woman giving birth was asked in the delivery room "what are you going to name your new baby girl?" This is no joke, she said "Vag..... (the part of a female's body). The people in the delivery room said "What did you say?" She repeated it and then went on to say, I heard that word once and thought it was so pretty, I am naming my girl that. Needless to say, they were all appalled. This was in a very poor section of Detroit and when you think about it, it's pretty sad.

It could have been worse. What if she had heard the word Chlamydia? Or Urethra? Back to Appaloosa....the area of my state referred to as the Palouse, came from the name of the horses the Native Americans rode in that area...the Appaloosas.
