Treasure Mystery

[ Edited ]

Heres something a little different from our usual fare. Forrest Fenn operated an art gallery with his wife, Peggy, after retiring from the Air Force. The gallery was located in Santa Fe, New Mexico and sold everything from artifacts to fine art and was quite successful. In 1988, Fenn was diagnosed with cancer and came up with the idea during this illness to create a bronze chest full of treasure for anyone to go find. He filled the chest with "treasure" containing gold nuggets, rare coins, jewelry and gemstones, along with a jar holding his autobiography. He intended to hide it and end his life nearby, with the treasure as a legacy.[2] However, he survived his illness and waited until he was 79 or 80 to hide the treasure. At least two people have been reported missing while searching for the treasure. One individual who was later found went missing in 2013. The most recent in January 2016 has still yet to be found.

 Here's part of the treasure.

Now we have a 60ish year old gentleman who came south from Colorado intent on finding the treasure.   He brought his cute little Jack Russell Terrier with him.   Nobody has heard from the man for two weeks,  although they found the dog and his car last week.

The missing man.

Today Mr.  Fenn hired a helicopter to search the rugged mountains and canyons in the area but no sign has been found.    He intends to search further tomorrow.

This is so strange.

Gives rise to ideas about looking for it, and then well, maybe not so much.

The Rio Grande runs through this area.   I think he may have somehow fallen in and been swept away.   Too bad the little dog can't talk.

IF you'd like to search for the treasure,  "google"  Fenn treasure for all kinds of information.   He says it's in a location an 80 year old man carrying 42lbs could reach.

Now you need to get looking too….

Here is Forrest’s poem with nine clues to a million dollar treasure

As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it’s no place for the meek,
The end is ever drawing nigh;
There’ll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.

If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answers I already know,
I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak.

So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.

What an amazing story.  It sounds like a novel, but it's real life.

Fascinating! Stories like this intrigue me, I see why people get the fever. If I went looking, though, I don't think I would bring my puppy. Thanks for sharing this little gem.
