Traveling to Virginia question.

We plan to drive to Virginia to see the Monticello and Montpelier area. Has anyone stayed in that area west of Richmond that they could recommend rather than the usual chains? Thanks.

Although I can't recommend any one place over another, I would suggest the web for information. You will love both homes!! I'm a seventh generation Virginian. Both places are located near Charlottesville, home of UVA, so there are lots are great places. Wishing you a wonderful trip!

Charlottesville is a lovely town with plenty of businesses that are not chains. Be aware that a football weekend at UVA will fill the town.

Cavalry -- on my dad's side we go back nine generations in Virginia.

You'll get the most up-to-date info using a site like Tripadvisor. Unless someone on these boards was just there yesterday.

Re: Traveling to Virginia question.

When are you coming? Virginia is beautiful in the fall. Places to stay: bed and breakfast in Orange VA on Rt 15 N is Inn at Willow Grove, 540-672-7001; in Charlottesville there is the Clifton Inn, 434-971-1800 and Keswick Hall, 434-979-3440. There are others, these came to mind first. Do check for home football games, the city is crazy when there is a home game. Enjoy your visit.

Thanks for all of your helpful info regarding Virginia. We will be driving from Florida in October. Wish I knew when to time the peak of the fall foliage.

Re: Traveling to Virginia question.

Oh yea . . .the traffic on I-81 can be a nightmare IF you get caught up in it . .. on a game weekend. Between people heading to UVA, JMU and VT . . . and being the main western thoroughfare in the state . . .
