@Desert Lily I agree with you. I'm so not a techie and get overwhelmed by all the new gadgets available.
We did cancel cable and have Direct TV. There are so many shows at each time on the guide to run through before deciding what to watch that sometimes I miss 10 minutes of the beginning. DH showed me how to eliminate most of the channels and choose "favorites" which have a heart next to them. These are channels I watch all the time....about 35 of them. The rest are still there, but they don't show up as a choice when I look for what to watch at a certain time.
I also have shows I watch on particular nights and have those memorized. Tonite is Law & Order and L&O SVU. Then bedtime. I find I'm watching my news channel more in the background when home (so much going on) and listen to music when I paint.
My hearing aids are bluetoothed (pick up signals) to my phone and I hear the radio and make calls from my car that way. When we purchased my "new car" they set it all up at the dealer for me, but took forever to learn how to use it. My other car that I drove DH now uses and is 18 yrs. old. You just carried a regular key, put it in ignition and drove away. My new BMW SUV has screens, no key, buttons to push to start, choose sport ride or comfort, etc., a NAV system I'm not used to and rarely us, SPOTIFY that you choose music that's also on your phone, other channels to choose that set set up, but can only be chosen when car not moving. Back up screens and parking screens. I still look ahead and behind me after 18 yrs. in my other BMW. DH is a mile from his office so the older car is good for that and he purchased an extended warrenty. My car is the one we use the rest of time.
I passed on the Ap*le watch although most friends and people around me have them. I have all I can do keeping up with updates to my phone and computer. I bet I have weekly appts. at the Ap*le store for help some months. I use my computer more than watching TV.
It is so overwhelming to learn everything. Our kids grew up knowing these things and so it comes naturally, but not to me.

Hi @Melzie I am not trying to in any way suggest you change what you are doing, but I thought I may share information you may not be aware of. I have always had cable TV but keep a portable TV for emergencies since 9/11. They have antennas. When I first took one out, I think when we had that big blackout in the Northeast not long after 9/11, I could only get a couple of good channels. I used my portable TV in 2012 too, when we lost electrical power for about a week due to superstorm sandy, and I don't think I had that many choices then either, but I didn't watch much TV then to preserve battery. More recently, I bought a new $30 antenna and connected it to a portable TV last year and I had dozens of channels with great reception. With digital transmissions, which is what over the air broadcasts are since 2009, broadcasters are upgrading and now get a lot better signals. So you probably have better antenna reception than you have experienced in the past
@NYCLatinaMe - I didn't think you were in any way suggesting what I was doing was incorrect. I was only expressing my experience and what I'm comfortable with. Thanks for the suggestion about checking out a new antenna. 🥰

@Desert Lily ...................How exhausting! But you do not have to do all things at once. Take one thing at a time until you are familliar and feel comfortable with it and then move to the next one. That is how I would handle it. I would not be able to do it all one right after another, I would be seriously confused.
Good luck with all you new tech stuff. Try not to stress yourself, it will be ok but will take time.

WOW!!! OP you are a maniac!!! I applaud you for literally jumping in head first ----but just reading your account gave me heart palpitations
so much tech so fast!!! But have done that a few times--like throwing pasta against the wall--some stuck , most did not for me. I do have a watch that drives me nuts trying to figure it out--I use it for the health things on it , earbuds drive me crazy--but I do have a smart ring and that little baby is pretty darn great--does the same as the watch, only on your finger. Have been threatening to cut out cable--have Xfinity and they are the devils cable co--in my opinion --of course. Streaming is another thing I can't seem to get a handle on mostly cuzz my TV is older. Good thing my son and my DD are tech savvy----and I google things all the time about tech issues--and have figured most out myself, surprisingly----so rock on sister!!!![]()
