I don't know how or why they are allowed to do that for days.
I can see for a few hours during the day or at night but not days on end.
How are you supposed to eat if you can't even use the bbq or technically even use a match to light the gas burner on your range top. Are they going to feed people for those 5 days?

There should be a limit as to how long they can keep your power off. 5 days is too long to go without power...

Just guessing: The reason they want you to refrain from lighting BBQ or fire is because of the heightened fire danger. Regardless, I would have a small container fire outside, just to prepare hot dogs and spam!

I read the article about this in LA Times; in addition to huge shutoff by PG&E there are also preventative shutoffs by SCE in S CA. If I still lived in CA I would invest in solar panels with a battery because this going to become a way of life.

Do you have a Halo or other type battery charger that can charge your phones without electricity?

This would send me through the roof. 24 hours (or less) notice for a 5 day shut off? What if you happen to have a job or a sick kid or are out of town for the day? What then? Out of luck?

Thirty seven years ago when I was living in S.Korea, they would have periodically scheduled "no power" days to extend what capabilities their power system had (went from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.). This was particularly bad in the very cold Winter. These types of power precautions will become more and more common.

This is not a third world country... yet... and for any entity to expect us to increasingly accept living as though it was due to their lack of foresight in managing their systems over the long term is unacceptable.
