We just got back from coffee and pastry at the beach. I love it! I'd never want to live far from the ocean.

I think seeing the Grand Canyon is something you do on a vacation. Living near the ocean is more of a lifestyle.
In my dreams! DH would prefer a river for fishing. Neither one of us likes seafood.

Thanks, Lotus. But it doesn't have a happy ending.
They moved away shortly thereafter, and we lost touch. I had no idea where they'd gone.
Fast forward about ten or 12 years. There was a knock at the door, and a very rough couple were standing there on the porch - the kind that you'd be afraid to let into the house for fear of being robbed, or worse. It was them, and they wanted to tell me that the happiest time of their life was back when they were little kids, and would come to our house. They'd remembered the times we'd decorated Christmas and Easter cookies, and that day we all went to the beach.
The years hadn't been kind to them. Poor things. God only knows what they'd lived through. It was pretty heartbreaking to see it.
Don't mean to have sidetracked your thread, gidget.
Sabatini, you are a sweetheart

Sabatini,
What a touching stories.
We are East Coasters so took the Atlantic for granted. I remember the first time I saw the Pacific and the Caribbean.

I have seen it many times and I love the ocean! The first time was when I was just out of seventh grade, after my Mom died, and my Dad and I went to Washington state. We stayed with friends of theirs, had great fun, being from S.D. We dug clams and ate at a seafood restaurant where our hosts had some raw oysters. A first for me.
We have been up and down the coast many times, love the Oregon best, and stayed many times at San Simeon, Love the ocean sound of the waves, and the air is so wonderful. We also loved eating outdoors, drinking some great wine.
We used to camp at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, beautiful there and not as frantic as the South Rim.
that was when we still lived in Hdsn., Nv., so it was fairly close. Also Zion and all the Utah parks.
Sadly, have never seen the Atlantic and all the wonderful attractions along the East coast.

....not so hard if you look at a map of the USA. The majority of Americans live far away from any ocean.
eactly...........it's just hard to believe that at some time in one's life one hasen't driven by the coast on their way to someplace else.........flown over it.......made it a vacation destination.......I guess it happens that some people have never seen it.......but it doesn't make it any less hard to believe......................................raven

I have lived by the ocean, in the mountains, by rivers, in.the high desert...there's beauty everywhere.
I like being by big water best, though. Maybe because I'm a Pisces? ![]()

Never saw the ocean. Living in the Midwest, I've seen Lake Michigan and that's enough for me.

I'm a Maui by way of California girl. I see the ocean every day now. In California it was about an hour or so away. I love it, never get tired of looking at it and never take it for granted.

i agree bbr......and even when we are not at the ocean when we are home, our vacations generally involve a place where there is an ocean or major body of water also.
