I know plenty of people that have never seen the ocean. I've never seen the Grand Canyon or a ""flat"" land like maybe Iowa.

After you've seen your first cornfield, you've seen 'em all.

We live about half an hour from the ocean and I can't imagine not ever seeing it. I was raised in Arizona and agree that the Grand Canyon is one of the most awesome things on earth!!

I went to college in Wisconsin. I had many friends who'd not seen the ocean, just as I'm sure many "coasters" have never seen a Great Lake.
The Atlantic is across the road for us. It's the first thing I see when I look out our bedroom window.

LOL!
I grew up in corn country so I get you. There is a certain beauty to miles of corn growing, but i wouldn't say it's one of the Seven Wonders!

I've been the the Caribbean too.......gorgeous!!!
I know how you feel when you saw the Grand Canyon. I know it's not the same thing but I felt the same way when I went to the Norman Rockwell (one of my fav artists) museum in Rockwell, MA......I literally got all choked up seeing his work closeup and personal.
I understand exactly. Andrew Wyeth was my favorite artist. Several years ago, an exhibit of some of his works came to Atlanta and we went. Again, I rounded the corner and there was my favorite "Wind From the Sea", right there in front of me (I wasn't expecting it to be there) and I got so choked up that I had to leave the room for a few minutes to compose myself. I had never been able to find it as a print, but they were selling a print of it at the exhibit. It's hanging over my bed so I can see it every day.

I'm sure there are people who and never seen the ocean or walked on the beach and collected shells. I'm from the Boston Area, so the ocean has been a part of my life since birth. I cannot even imagine living away from the ocean. The beach was just down the street when I was a kid and never more than 20 minutes away as an adult. And I don't even swim! I'm not comfortable being in the water, no higher than my knees. I just have to be near it. But I have never experienced the desert. A weekend in Vegas doesn't count. I've never seen the Grand Canyon, never seen the Redwoods. There are still a lot of things on my bucket list.

....not so hard if you look at a map of the USA. The majority of Americans live far away from any ocean.
