Wow, what a coincidence seeing this right now. Was less than 5 minutes ago my wife was telling me how bad her toaster has been working. I can't even remember the last time I used any toaster, thus, her toaster.

She said she had to dig down into it to get the toast out. First thing I asked was "when was the last time you cleaned it"? She didn't remember, so when I go into the kitchen  later I will check it out.

Having some mechanical knowledge of how things work, this sounds like a spring problem. If it isn't popping all the way out, and the bread is not too wide? Gotta be a spring somewhere. No promises, but if that's all it is? Great! If not she may be looking for a new one also.

Will read some of these other posts later, got some stuff to do. May just start with that ×@$&>[&$:& toaster, her words, not mine!

I have a very old Black and Decker Toaster Oven.  This is my second one.  The first lasted about 15 years and this other one is working hard.

We only use it to toast.  It toasts both sides and  a bell rings when the time is up.  It does great jobs on bagels, bread, and English muffins.   I have even used it to reheat pizza.

I was looking for a replacement, but I haven't found anything which compares.  I did purchase a toaster over from Aldi's, but it was huge and took up too much room on my counter.  Therefore,  I am keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn' go belly up.

Okay, this is kind of a silly question, but here goes.  I bought a toaster on line, a major brand, fairly expensive (don't want to mention brand) because I'm tired of cheap toasters I have to replace all the time.  It took forever to be shipped, but I was eager to try it out as soon as I got it.  Popped in a piece of bread, waited...it popped up and only one side was toasted.  Smiley Sad I thought okay, maybe it needs to be "broke in" and tried it again.  And again.  Same thing every time.

So I contacted the manufactuer, had to jump through a few hoops but they finally agreed to send me a replacement.  It took a month to get the new one.  When it finally arrived I immediately tried it out.   I wouldn't get a lemon twice, would I??   Yes I would.  Same darn thing.  I had so much trouble getting the replacement I just didn't want to deal with the company again.

So I took my old toaster back out of the cabinet (kept for a back up) and now I have 2 brand new toasters that don't toast worth a *amn.  I don't want to donate or give them to anyone knowing they're defective and for some reason I have a hard time just throwing them in the garbage.  But that's what they are, garbage.  So, any ideas on what to do with these stupid toasters??

Why didn't u return both to the store where u purchased it? OR - returned to the manufacturer? What good are toasters that don't work???

Are you sure there isn’t a second lever or switch that doesn’t need to be turned on for both sides to toast? I ask this because DD was given a very
“ fancy” toaster that makes Mickey Mouse Image on the bread and plays music while it toasts. She was only getting one side toasted and figured out there was a second switch, not very visible, that was needed to make the thing work. Happy hunting! I would keep them or send them back if they were that expensive. I have a horizontal four slice toaster I need to replace but can’t find one like it. It’s 20 yrs old and I prefer it to the new ones I see.

Re: Toaster dilemma

[ Edited ]

I have a 2-slot Kitchen Aid toaster around 6 years old - and it never toasted evenly. One side of the bread toasts darker than the other. I bought this toaster on-line from Bed/Bath - and there were many other complaints. It also has that bagel setting, which makes no sense - as it doesn't toast properly. The toaster is red and has that vintgage look - and I deal with it - but I don't understand why Kitchen Aid would put out such a poor product. I'm just waiting for it to quit - then I'll buy another brand.

I may have a hard time sleeping. But I'll remember what you said.

Dreading breakfast in the morning...what to do what to do. So much cream cheese! Dare I schmear my bagel toastless?? It's only a Lenders. Not even a real bagel.

A cool compress and a lavender sachet...yes that will help. Woman Very Happy

I bought a Black and Decker toaster oven for $19.99 from Bed and Bath. It toasts, bakes, broils and has a warm setting.  It works great.  I have only used the toast feature but no problems.
