@caroln242

Just went through the craziness of replacing a toaster.  I almost got a headache from reading all the reviews from well known to unheard of brands.

Finally bought a Cuisinart for approx. $50 that does simple things....for a vacation house.  Tried the first piece of bread ( half a bagel ) and it worked perfectly.

If it didn't, it would have gone back so fast !

I think toasters are just a hit or miss thing no matter what the brand.  It's just the luck of the draw!Woman Frustrated

I've had my share of toasters.  Once had a JennAir copper toaster that was great until it suddenly died.  Since Kitchenaid had bought out JennAir, they replaced it with one of theirs - not the finast.  (And, I've had a Kitchenaid years ago that was great.)

I now have settled on two toaster that I love (one for upstairs and one for the playroom downstairs).  I have a beautiful pink Smeg - makes perfect toast:  it does tend to throw out the toast onto the counter thoughtWoman LOL.  My other toaster is a WestBend.  It's the long model and you can make poached eggs/heat Canadian bacon, if you're in the mood for and egg mcmuffin!  Like all the "older" appliances, it just keeps working and working.

Maybe someday - hopefully in the near future - we'll be able to buy goods made in the USA.  'Til then, imho, it's just the luck of the draw!

i would definitely read the instructions. i have a toaster that has a bagel setting so that could be what you are experiencing? if you named the brand, perhaps others could help you out more. mine is a cuisinart 4 slice toaster.

Believe it or not I'm still using an original 1950's Toastmaster toaster! My mother used it when I was a little girl. The only thing I've done with it is replace the power cord. The old cord was old cotton wrapped wire. The old toaster works better than a new one I bought which I gave away.

Hey @Kachina624 , thought you were going to buy 6 of the new ones (Smeg) that Qvc will have in the future to store in your "gift closet."  Remember I asked to be put on your gift list.  Have you forgotten?

@coffee drinker   No, I haven't forgotten but may have trouble sending your SMEG to you.  It may have to be a virtual delivery.

Re: Toaster dilemma

[ Edited ]

I had a Dualit toaster, ~$400.00 - piece of junk. Only toasted one side!!! I now have a Breville, samething. Only one side gets toasted.

I've had many others from the least expensive to brands they sell at Williams-Sonoma, Cuisinart, Kitchen Aid. All same issue. I don't know why they can't make a decent toaster. Of course I know about the bagel setting. It's poor engineering of toasters. Not my settings.

I have a combo Toaster, Oven, Broiler,  Air fryer and the toasting function was a little strange at first now we love it

We buy the cheapest toaster we can find because we have found that the more expensive ones don't really last any longer  or work any better than the cheaper ones.
