@Kachina624 I purchased this toaster about a month ago, I have the red coral color so very pretty really cheery looking. It lights up to let you know if the bagel setting is on. Toasts both side of bread really well. I really like it. And I think the price was reasonable also.

@Kachina624 This the color I have in the red coral. The toaster is great with a white cord. Very attractive, and works very well.

For those that have asked, the brand of the toaster is Cuisinart. (I was thinking in my first post that naming brands might be a no-no on the forum.)
I bought it through Amazon, but I went directly to the manufacturer with my complaints and got the second one directly through them. So I don't know if I should contact Cuisinart for a refund or Amazon. It was such as hassle just trying to get a replacement, I can't imagine what it will be like to get a refund!

@caroln242 If you bought the first one through Amazon, your refund will come from Amazon.
If you bought the second one directly from Cuisinart, then that one needs to go back directly to Cuisinart.
Good luck.
Amazon gives the refund as soon as your return is scanned in at UPS or whatever service is used. I have Prime so that may make a difference.

I was afraid of that! More aggevation over a dumb toaster! Since I didn't pay for the second one, maybe I should just contact Amazon for a refund one the first one and throw the one from Cuisinart in the trash or recycle bin. That sounds like a plan! Thanks everyone for bouncing ideas around.

The settings on new applicances can be complicated. Make sure your read the instructions very carefully. I have a toaster I bought at Walmart for around $12 and it hasn't failed me. I don't spend a lot on toasters, irons or hair dryers. I get them at Walmart and when they die 4 or 5 years later, I got my money's worth. I like simple (I'm not good with new technology) and I don't like to spend a lot of money on things like that. Before you give up on the new ones, go over the instructions or maybe have someone else look at the instructions.

@caroln242 Return the first one to Amazon since you purchased that one there. You are entitled to a refund especially if defective.
Unless you are uber rich, why throw the second one away??? If you want to toss the $$ that's your choice but I'd return it. Cuisinart must have a return policy. Even if you have to pay shipping-which they should cover if the item is defective.
Check their website for terms; it won't take long to be done with both toasters and you can move on from there.
I actually have the 4-slot Cuisinart.

This thread reminded me of a friend once telling me that toasters in restaurants toast unevenly on purpose, for a good reason. I asked her about it, and she couldn't remember why.
I googled this dilemma and found many interesting posts:
When you look at a two slot toaster, most slots are parallel to each other. So each slot has one outside and one inside element. While the two inside elements support each other in terms of heat, the two outside elements don’t. That results in the temperature of the inside being a little higher than on the outside, which then results in the bread on the inside getting a bit darker.
And this ....

And this ....
Why would a toaster only toast one side of the bread?
I have same problem. I have purchased 3 Cusinarts toasters they toast the inside fine, but the outside just barely toasts. I also purchase an Oster and it does the same thing. Perhaps becuase they only cost about $25-$29?
It appears that getting evenly toasted toast is not nearly as easy as it should be. Maybe Martha Stewart should be called? LOL

jmo....to me the bagel setting is useless....I have always toasted my bagels and thats how I love to eat them. I have a Black and Decker toaster oven I got at big lots for under $20 but it gets too hot on the top and you gotta fish out your food.....still would like to find a descent toaster

That's really interesting to know!
Thanks for sharing that with us.
If you didn't let us know, I wouldn't have known about this feature.
I'm always interested in their brand of products, since they have such a great reputation.
We needed a new toaster not too long ago.
We ended up getting a 4 slot Black & Decker toaster.
It also has a bagel button on it for each side, that you have to manually push in when you first start toasting a bagel.
So far, it's working great, and it gets used at least a few times a week.
