Tip jars are showing up everywhere even at roadside produce stands. If a tip is not required for a cashier at a grocery store why would I tip one at a stand?

There is always a tip jar where I go for Chinese takeout, Dunkin Donuts, and local bagel shop. I always put a dollar or two in the jar, not 20%.

I tend to tip when there's the opportunity because my mother supported us by waiting tables.

I tip at the counter, too.

Re: To tip, or not to tip?

[ Edited ]

In the situation you're describing, I don't tip. This includes the following places that do this (that I have not tipped):

Subway

Jerrry's Subs

Dunkin Donuts

7-11

Papa Johns

Panda Express

local food places.

Nope, nope, nope.

I TIP when  I am shown to a seat (or had to make a reservation for the seat), am handed a menu, see the same person repeatedly and have EXCELLENT service. If those 4 things don't occur, NO TIP.

I haven't read all the answers so someone may have said this.  Those are standard pre-programmed computer receipts that are all over the place nowdays.  I don't tip at this type of restaurant (maybe I'll consider it) but I usually leave cash for table service.  I want that server to know I appreciate how they handled the service.  They will never know if the restaurant just settles up all the receipts at the end of shift.

In post 1, the OP says when she pressed no for the tip, the person taking the order lowers their head as if ashamed of her.

By post 20, the OP says when she pressed no for the tip, they roll their eyes and react like she had an atomic ***rt.

Things seems to be getting more embellished?

It's happened 3 times, each time a little different, yes.
