@NicksmomESQ @Suziepeach  I sat next to a teacher living in Russia going home  to Arizona for his Grandfathers  funeral on a 6 hr. plus flights. A four year old was kicking his seat  off and on to get a rise out of this passenger next to me. He asked  the Mother three times, after first asking if they could speak and understand English to get him to stop. She told us meekly she did all she could under the conditions to get her boy to stop that he was  just bored etc. Then a remark was made about her lack of parenting. My neighbor was able to finally move after talking to the Flight Attendant.

Re: To Recline Or Not?

Couldn't she just have said "is this going to bother you?" to the man behind her before she started reclining?  He was in the last row and could not recline his seat.  Also AA said she knocked over his drink by reclining her seat.

I guess as far a she  was concerned her comfort was more important than his.I hope she doesn’t get any compensation. The man seated behind was also rude despite the fact his discomfort seemed to be her pleasure.

Personally, I think Mr Rogers would have asked the lady to take the mans seat for a while to see how it feels.  Is that seat comfortable to you?  And he would have had the woman punch seat, and ask him...can you feel that.? How does it feel.  Lol    I think Mr Rogers could have resolved the issue by talking in a calm, peaceful kind voice.  Something that is rare in public arenas these days.

maybe the lady should have tried his seat for 10 mins. No reclining and cramped space.

but she might have been the kind to say, that's not my seat, so I don't care.

perhaps flight attendant could have had more combat training.  They need it.

i have to say, I haven't encountered too many people like this.  Usually a polite, friendly request does it for most people and they comply. I haven't had to do that much either.  I think people are usually good people.  Sometimes they are unaware of the frustration they cause others, and a gentle reminder does it.

I don't think we'll reach a middle ground on this topic, but I don't see anywhere (and I've searched) where it says she spilled his drink and that's why the flight attendant gave him another rum.

But one article I read came up with my favorite solution to the entire problem:

"And finally, can we all agree that the solution is free in-flight rum for all?"

Airline seats in the coach section of the plane should no longer recline.  Simple.  There is not enough space.  Airlines can solve this problem by removing that feature.  People are not courteous enough to care about the person behind.

I agree.  Just remove the reclining feature and then it will not be an issue.

I don't recline and don't appreciate people that are cramping my space.

@Cakers3  Regarding your post.  I think it would have come out by now if he'd have purchased the ticket (or someone else did for his benefit).

If I recline at all, it is only slight. I think this woman is loaded for bear and is probably going after the flight attendant rather than the guy behind her since she doesn’t even know his name. The last I saw reported is the airline wouldn't release his name. The attendant told her to ask him if it was okay if she reclined....I don’t know if she did or not..if she was on American Eagle, you have even less room.

My BIL is 6’6” tall. He always requests the bulkhead seat...usually ends up sitting with someone who moves everything onto the floor in front of their seats rather than putting it underneath....so he has almost no more legroom than if he folds himself up like he must do in the other seats. Even first class isn’t spacious enough for his long legs.

I have never liked flying...and seeing videos of this grown man punching the seat of a passive-aggressive woman just gives me one more reason not to look forward to an airline trip. I think the flight attendant will be the sacrificial lamb in this incident.

I never recline because I think it's incredibly rude.  The space between rows is very small and seems to be getting smaller.

I have had people in front of me recline and I just think in my head was a clueless, rude, jerk that person is.  I would never act like that guy did.  That was just ridiculous.
