@cheriere THANK YOU for that picture. I'm going to save it.
I've NEVER had a problem with ticks personally, but I'm SO worried about our precious Golden Retriever. She loves to be outside and I hate to load her up with all those *poison* flea and tick repellants. I'm searching products that won't harm her but will repel those nasty bugs!!!

@cheriere I live in the boonies where Lyme Disease rules. When walking the dog in my area, I wear long pants, bobby socks & hightops. I spray DEET from the knees on down. Never found a tick (or fleas) on my clothes.

Where I used to work, in a hospital lab, we would sometimes get bug specimens from doctors' patients who brought them in for id. Mostly ticks and spiders from bites. Helps with diagnosis and treatments.

I try to do that too. We live pretty far out. Sometimes though, when it's really hot and I'm outside working I still manage to find a few trying to crawl up my leg.
Once when I was a kid, a tick got stuck in my head and I'll never forget how hard it was for my parents to get it to finally turn loose so they could get it out. I still have a fear of that happening again.

We have a Golden Retriever and treat him year round with heartworm prevention and flea & tick prevention. The flea and tick is a topical - K9 Advantix II or Pet Armour are both good. He's an old boy now and has never had a problem.

@JeanLouiseFinch "The flea and tick is a topical - K9 Advantix II"
It's what I use for my chi-mix. I love it because you purchase by the dogs weight. Never found anything sucking or crawling on her. She is short-haired, so easily found when checking.
I also use Wondercide (for me & my dog) right before the blooming of trees & bushes which was recommended by someone on this message board whose name escapes me.

Thanks for the recommendation. It might be something DH and I could use.
