I agree.  I always wait to make my judgment until after the news has stopped making things up.  Remember when they say "it's been reported" they are usually speculating.  News people are not journalists anymore.  They are news readers and they have to make stuff up to fill up the hour.

I got my info ONLY from the victims' interviews.  The victims who were in the bathrooms, that is.  I'm sure they didn't make stuff up.  There's something missing in the police accounting of the story.

@fortune

What about the 4 survivors that just 1 Police Officer drug out to safety. One was shot twice in the legs and once in the hand. I didn't hear him reference anything about 3 hours. He was just happy  to be alive. He his biggest gift would be to meet that Officer who pulled him out.

As I said in 1 of my other posts. Do you actually think ALL of the survivors saw/heard and will repeat the exact same rememberence of what occurred?  If a the barrel of a weapon was pointed at me and i was shot? I haven't a clue how accurate my replication of exactly what happened even I could believe.

Ask any Investigator .....  victims' recollections are nortoriously inaccurate (and incomplete) in life and death situations.   Sometimes they block things out.

That's why investigators have to collect all data and compare it for similarities and inaccuracies.   Using just victims' recollections is a mistake.

@hckynut No of course he hasn't.  No where do I make him out to be an expert.  He's just thinking of the victims and their families waiting out the 3 hours.

I tell him to not speculate  because he doesn't know what the background info is. Then he says, what if was our loved ones, then is 3 hours acceptable?  He has a valid point.

It's not a valid point if storming the place early on would have made a bad situation even worse.  IMO, we aren't trained SWAT / LE professionals and we weren't there, so we know little of what was going on.  For these reasons, I don'the think we can or should offer suggestions or judgments about what should have been done differently.

@Mary Bailey

Unless he has commanded or been a member of a SWAT Team, I see no valid point. Family members or strangers being involved.

I have not, but I do have 2 friends that were former Police Officers and SWAT Team members. There were no Mass Killings here, but I am quite sure there view of Orlando is not even close to DH, family members or not.

I think we have both made our, and DH, point of view clear so I will leave his view to him.

This is a perfect example of jumping to conclusions.  Why not wait for the full report to come out?  Maybe some of your questions will be answered by that.

Totally agree.

Something else to keep in mind is that eyewitness accounts are notoriously inaccurate no matter what the crime.  Considering this was a horrific attack, it is very likely that the statements from those inside the club will vary significantly person to person because of their location in the club and because of the enormous stress they were experiencing.

Many more people would have been saved if it had been handled differently.  That's a fact!

Were you there? Fact? Who would know, you or those trained 1st Responders on the scene? Think I will go with the 1st Responders.

And where and how did you get your facts?

How's about That is your opinion, not to be confused as facts?

I too have listened to interviews of law enforcement, first responders and the survivors.

A fact?  Well, then, do tell.   You must have been there if you're  sure of the facts.  Tell us what you know.....but first, tell the news media so all will know.  And  please tell us what your role was in the mission to save the hostages.  Thanks.

People bled to death that could have been saved if there had been some smart people in swat.  Unfortunately, there were not.

or, more people could have been shot and died if they rushed in without finding out more regarding the situation.

they needed to find out what was going on, and where, in the building.

they were rescuing people during those 3 hours.

they were concerned there were more perps than just the one, that there was a bomb, and they were attempting to negotiate releases and capture.

monday morning quarterbacking is so easy.
