Those Who Are Working Today

[ Edited ]

Not everybody has today off.

There are those who are working today, whether by choice or not.

It goes beyond hospital workers, and firefighters, and police officers.

There are tow truck drivers, pilots and flight crews, air traffic controllers, train engineers, hotel workers, restaurant workers, semi-truck drivers.

I even had a street sweeper go by my house earlier this morning.

Just now, a garbage truck collected the trash from the dumpster at a near by businesss.

The Sky looks different when you have someone you love up there.

Re: Those Who Are Working Today

My son was told he was working today. At least he didn't have to go in early.

But it makes planning dinner a bit tough. He said he probably wouldn't be home until after 8 PM. So I will prepare the Christmas meal 2 times.

Years ago when I worked at a hospital,we were given a free Christmas dinner in the cafeteria.

When I lose the TV controller, it's always in some remote destination.

Re: Those Who Are Working Today

I think about all of the people working holidays and weekends all the time.

I worked 15 Christmases of my 16 years at the hospital switchboard; all 11-7 shift.   I came home to have Christmas morning with my girls before walking over to my parents.   We came home, loaded the car, and drove to my in-laws.   90% of the time I had to work Christmas night as well, so those years I skipped the in-laws celebration and went to bed.  I’ve worked MANY holiday night shifts on 4-5 hours sleep.

I’m very grateful for those who work on our behalf during the holidays.  There are so many industries that we depend upon regardless of the day or the weather.  Today I’m especially grateful for those who work in emergency services.  My husband has mobility issues and fell in the middle of the night last night so I had to call 911.  I was so grateful for the young men who came to his aid.

My niece, who works at Starbucks, had to work till noon today. I certainly don't consider coffee a necesssry item that would require them to be open on Christmas, but they were open.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?
