I agree also.
For the past week WHEN there were classes, there was a two hour delay because of below than normal temps.
In my school district, the first bus pick up is 6:30 a.m. Can you imagine standing out there in weather 6 below zero? Also, most of the rivers are older people, 60 plus.
Our bus comes at 6:46 and it was extremely cold, colder than I remember when I lived in Belgium and Germany. I can't imagine driving 45 kids in the dark over black ice.

The media exists to justify the media... The more doom and gloom they forecast the higher the ratings, or at least so they assume, and the more airtime for the local talking heads... They're increasingly hard to stomach.

I hope the people in the mid west who depend on propane gas listen/read/look at the news as far as what to do in case they run out.

It's because most water pipes end up in the basement of our houses (which here in the NE are underground cellars) and those cellars are not heated. So that 60 degrees would drop even lower. Then those same pipes run from the house underground and here in the NE (and a lot of other places too) that ground is frozen. The effect of that frozen ground temperature chills the water in the pipes right back into your house. You don't have to believe me but it cracks me up that people want to argue safety issues. Just check with any plumber or plumbing website.
Not arguing, asking. Geez.
I don't know how it happens but one of my friends posted on FB that her pipe froze in her bathroom sink and then several other people responded that they had the same problem.
I'm really, really concerned about our hot tub that is on our back deck. If anything on that freezes and bursts, that would be a mess and a total loss.

Hi Ford.....I hope you had a nice day yesterday with your daughters. Hopefully, you will be feeling a bit better today. I was sad to hear that you were in so much pain yesterday. Please know many of us are thinking of you....

in the 80's when dh and I were living in Illinois for his job, it did get down to -85 below (included wind chill). it was awful to say the least. we just kept the water running so the piped in the house didn't freeze worry about the bill later.
I have stayed in doors since this cold snap has hit, I am also wondering when spring will get here

I don't have a hot tub, but have friends that have them.... it's an expensive thing to fix. Can you drain it to protect the piping? Otherwise, can you keep it running on a low temp so that the water is circulating and it won't freeze up? Might add a little to your electric bill, but probably cheaper long term than having it freeze up and be a total loss, or the expense of repairing it.
