I live in an area that voted in an entire slate of anti-fracking candidates but it also looks like our governor will not allow fracking to proceed, thank goodness.  The water safety issue, or lack thereof, is part of several broader issues, one of which is our crumbling infrastructure. Here in the northeast, we have rusted bridges, pot-holes galore, even on major interstates. Water main breaks are commonplace. The water we drink in some cases is contaminated by pipes that are over a century old.

Why are we not taking care of our American home? We sing patriotic songs, wave our flag proudly, but we're not putting our money where our mouth is. I have traveled extensively in Western Europe. The roads are beautiful, even in the countryside. Bridges and overpasses are immaculate. We can drink water without fear. I know we like to think of our nation as having the best of everything but we are falling behind. Worse, people are in danger because of it.

If any of you use countertop water filters, here are results of a water test commissioned by Natural News:

I use use a water ionizer and a Zero Water filter in an attempt to remove as much chlorine and fluoride as possible from my city water supply. Neither of these were tested in this particular test.

Can't read the chart, but isn't flouride put into the water for our teeth?

State documents show that employees at the Flint state government office were told not to drink the  water and given bottled water and water coolers because the water wasn't treated and was harmful..

@Lila Belle

I just read an article that stated higher levels in other parts of Michigan as well.

@MaggieMack

I read the chart you posted and found it to be interesting and helpful.  A couple of questions if you don't mind?

1.Where did you find the chart?

2.Is there also a chart available for filters that are for showerheads?

TIA

@Tinkrbl44, yes, fluoride is put in the water to protect our teeth. That is a disputed subject, I don't see the need for it since you can find fluoride in just about every toothpaste, and many mouthwashes. Health purists would like to see it eliminated from our water supply. There are those who argue it does more harm than good.

I understand the need for chlorine in the water supply, but prefer to filter out as much as I can because I don't really want it in my body.

@butterfly123, I found it through Google, on a site called natural news.com.  I googled something like "countertop water filters and lead removal." I was curious to find out if I was wasting my time using the Zero Water.

You can probably find something similar on shower filters, an excellent idea since our skin is our largest organ and what we put on it heads right for our liver. I've used an Aquasana filter for years, but can't speak to the efficacy of it removing heavy metals.

@MaggieMack

I was just on the site and haven't found the chart for filters for shower heads yet.  I did find a different filter but it looks like it is only available overseas. Thank you!

I have been passing along warnings and data condemning fracking for more than a year.  And that included poisoning water and wells.  Most people said it was just PC untruths.  Not everyone, but most who responded.

That is because they really don't understand the science behind it and what is occurring. Also, they are being misled by a variety of people and groups about it and they choose to believe them. Many who allowed them to frack on their land for big $ have come to regret it. Many people are blinded by the money they throw at you with no real understanding of the repercussions. Oh but it provides jobs and makes us less dependent on other countries for energy and blah blah blah nevermind all the negative stuff it does.

 'm in NY. on the PA. border, and we have been fighting it. Over the border they welcomed the

gas people with open arms, their PR.offensive was successful, because it is a depressed area, and the money looked like a life saver. However local rents skyrocketed {to house gas workers}, and crime shot up. Many motels wre built, { now mostly empty}, a man camp was built, now also empty. These are just the short term results of fracking.
