None of these people you mention were moral people to be respected for their values. I guess they were good actors. There will always be good actors.

Yes, there will always be GOOD actors, but not many GREAT ones. Also, people can judged on many different levels. Human beings are complicated. A person may be great at their profession but lousy in their personal life.

Exactly!! I am far from a judgmental person . . . I judge no one. My post was meant to highlight those who were an "era" in and of themselves. There is no one in the civilized world who doesn't know those names and will not know them for decades and decades to come, and many of those mentioned in the posts that followed.

In fact, I was going to include Michael Jackson and John Lennon in my post, but was worried it would turn the post negative . . . and someone managed to do it anyway. Too bad.

I took this thread to be a light-hearted one -- there are many people who are "legends" in one field or another, be it entertainment, science, etc. Who are we to judge their morals? Actually, who are we to judge the morals of anyone? I'll leave that up to a much higher power than me.

Well said, kittymomNC! It's an interesting, entertaining thread, fun to see how people responded to the original question.

Posters being scolded about "moral people to be respected for their values?" I can't resist quoting Dana Carvey, SNL:

Mother Teresa wasn't moral?{#emotions_dlg.scared} And someone mentioned C S Lewis who in addition to his children's books (which by the way are heavy on Biblical metaphor) was one of the greatest Christian apologists in history and if you don't know what that means, google it.{#emotions_dlg.wink}

I also can't imagine anyone saying that James Stewart was immoral. Quite the opposite.

I was referring to the characters in the original post with their multiple marriages and the abuse of alcohol and drugs . None of them were role models for clean living. CS Lewis was an atheist who accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was also a good writer. Other than this I know little about him.

Love your choices. Agree about Erma Bombeck, Skelton, Beatles band and C.S. Lewis (to learn more about Lewis, watch the movie, Shadowlands). I'll add President Truman, Winston Churchill, Mandela, Maya Angelou, poets such as Thoreau and Emmerson who participated in the underground railroad, the man they called Johnny Appleseed, Buck O'Neill (KC legend). Some day we'll be saying this about Billy Graham. Read his autobiography. Great man on so many levels.

Ford...the sad truth is that 99.9% of the time a thread goes negative no matter what the subject matter. It is a sad situation and cannot be stopped, unfortunately.
