Re: The problem with gift cards

Jannabelle - Oh yeah, some do. Probably all the gift cards that are somewhere here, in or on my desk, were just willy nilly gifts from people who probably thought they were being nice and all, but there were very impersonal gifts in that they had nothing to do with what we might actually like.

I've heard this from many others. The part that perplexes me is that somebody would want to spend that money with no thought that the recipient would even want that. It's like money in the trash and that's why I think those folks, while not meaning ill-will, were just doing the 'check it off in the I did it' column. Just a matter of feeling like it's a duty they must perform to show they are - well, whatever. Smiley Happy

Well no wonder some don't like them.......I alwaus give to,places that I know the person loves, and the ones I have received have been to places I would go to without a gift card, that is why I love getting them..........that is very impersonal to give with no regard for the persons lIkes,...I would not like that either.......I think there is a place online you can sell them,.....or donate to military families.

Re: The problem with gift cards

I sometimes give restaurant gift cards. It's not more "stuff" to clutter the house, and people like to eat out!

I have everything I could possibly want and if I want something I buy it..so does hubby throughout the year. I would prefer somebody give me a gift card then waste $25 to $50 on something that I will not use.

THIS!!!

i feel the same way because i am also someone that has most of what i want and what i don't i have no problem buying for myself when i see it. which makes my family label me as "hard to buy for",too!

A gift card is so much nicer to receive. I love to carry in my purse for a long time while I make up my mind what to buy or when to go eat.

Re: The problem with gift cards

I generally don't like giving gift cards. For me if I'm giving someone a $25 GC, they know I spent $25. But I could get them a good gift on sale for $25 and it wouldn't be as obvious. Of course, if they return it I guess they'd know how much I spent. It's not that I'm trying to trick anyone that I spent more than I actually did, I just don't like the " I spent this much on you" aspect. That being said, I'm actually giving a few this year. We're giving our parents gift cards for local " dinner and a movie", a bunch of $5 CG (along with handmade cards from the kids) to a local coffee shop for the kids' teachers, and some small amount cards in the kids stockings.

I like getting gift cards. I always use them even though sometimes it's not for months.

Re: The problem with gift cards

In our family, we give each other a lot of restaurant gift cards. Yes, we know everyone's favorites.

My husband and I are going out for dinner tonight, and will use one. I always feel like I can splurge a bit when all, or part, of the meal is covered.Smile

Re: The problem with gift cards

If the gift card is not placed in a RFID sleeve or wallet, a thief with a scanner can steal the number and the funds.
