The Quiet Sea Change At QVC...the "anti amazon"

QVC is a stable base to work from and, according to popular and on-air hosts, it presents consumers with something akin to the “anti-Amazon” model. If Amazon is all about speedy transactions, QVC is about stopping to watch a while and seeing what looks inspirational.

Venable told Bloomberg, “We’re establishing a relationship with viewers. If you go to other online retailers, it’s a transaction. When you come to QVC, it’s a social experience.”

The channel managed to add 417,000 new customers during Q1 of 2018, the second-biggest increase for that period in 15 years. And it has developed imitators Amazon created a web show called “Style Code Live.” It looked familiar enough exuberant millennials lavishly praising beauty and fashion products available for purchase on Amazon — that QVC’s CEO took the opportunity to accuse Amazon of being a copycat.

  I can't watch QVC.

The dancing, prancing, and absurd theatrics is ridiculous and annoying.

I used to keep QVC on as background noise, stopping to watch at pertinent times.................not anymore!

I don’t think it has to be an either / or. I shop both places. The thing is Amazon sells everything! QVC is great for limited items.

I feel the same way and I shop (a lot!) at both places.

I read the whole article.  Very interesting.  Over 400,000 customers is nothing to sneeze at.  It seems the Beauty iQ channel is becoming the cash cow for QVC.  It’s bringing in more customers, and younger customers because of the YouTube beauty blog craze.

Thanks for sharing @sunshine45.

It isn't really much of a social experience anymore.  It may have been a social experience when the hosts addressed the audience like normal people.  Seems more like a cartoon now.

Re: The Quiet Sea Change At QVC...the "anti amazon"

Well, whoever wrote the article should have checked up on their facts because a few of those beauty lines left QVC more than a month ago; which makes me wonder what else is not exactly accurate in the article.

I spend far more than $1200 a year at QVC; if you buy any kind of jewelry, you're going to. Or, if you purchase clothing/shoes from specific vendors, as well as house items...yeah, it adds up to a few thousand easily.

I haven't called in to order in....geez, I don't remember the last time. I do believe QVC and HSN are very smart to focus on their online presence as the bulk of consumers shop that way.

As for Amazon, I don't support the company in any way. The moment I hear another company has either joined forces or been bought out, they lose me as a customer. I sincerely hope neither QVC or HSN winds up in some type of a partnership because I'll hate not being able to shop with them.

@Nancy Drew  My feeling is I CAN find everything here on amazon for much less, free s/h both ways. Works for me!

@SahmIam Guess who recently jumped on the Amazon boat?

Chicos.  Amazon will now (mid-May) be selling Chico’s lines of fashions and assessories.  Just like Sears and Nike, and so many others.  Oh well, they didn’t name it Amazon for nothing.
