@VaBelle35 ....... I have never seen anyone sign their name that way in correspondence. I don't understand why you would sign your name and add your husband's name in parentheses on business correspondence. Was the husband employed with the company?
No he was not with the company.
But now that I think about it, I remember my next door neighbor was writing an absentee note for one of her kids and she signed her name the same way, with the husband's name in parentheses.
Here's what I found:

i think MRS MARY SMITH or just MARY SMITH are both perfectly fine unless that person has told you otherwise that she doesnt want to be known by MRS anymore. my mother still uses MRS.

@VaBelle35 .... Don't know when that was written. If the person you are corresponding with does not know your husband I just don't understand the benefit of inserting his nane. Chances are they will probably never meet him or correspond with him.

I think I. This day Nd age, few women use their husbands name. When I send a sympathy card, I use the individual's first and last name with no title. I hold an advanced academic degree, and only use the title of Dr. in the academic world..other wise I am Mary Smith.

I was Mrs. G. for forty-seven years, and now that I am widowed, defy anyone to say I am no longer. It is a title I earned and hold in esteem.

@beach-mom I would us Ms. or just her first and last name. Today, things are not as formal as they use to be but if you are writing wedding invitations it is nice to use proper addressing.

Thanks again everyone! I will continue my practice of using Mrs. Mary Smith for divorcees, as I have addressed the cards to my one sister-in-law for many years. DH's brother-in-law remarried, but she did not. Her last name is her former husband's. For older widows I almost always address their cards as Mrs. John Smith. I agree with @IamMrsG on that. I do have a close friend who was widowed in her 40's. She is an M.D. who has always used her maiden name professionally, so I address her birthday cards as Mary Smith. I also do this for some other close friends.
The card I sent and addressed to "Mary Smith" was just a "thinking of you" card. July is a hard month for her, and I usually see her. This year I won't, so I thought I would send a card.

I always figured that if someone was going to call me Mrs. Husband’s Name, then they need to be calling him Mr. My Name.
as for addressing something, I was always taught Mary Smith, 123 Easy Street, Town, State, then the salutation is Dear Mrs. Smith.
