They haven't come out in years, I was ready to chop it down this year. I guess it needed a lot of rain to blossom. Yeah!!!! Any flowers coming back for you?

Yes, I just love the smell of them. I had a nice one next door, but when the new neighbor moved in he chopped so much of it off that it's nearly dead now. I had a nice pink rose bush that was still blooming profusely last fall after 25 years, but this spring it's deader than a doornail. I don't have any idea what happened to it. I will surely miss that beautiful smell!

My lilac began flowering yesterday! Ah, the fragrance is amazing and the beauty is lovely. Isn't Spring gorgeous this year? We are being rewarded after such a bitterly cold winter!

My folks had honeysuckle that use to grow on a vine beside their porch and was that ever nice! I still remember that.

Oh, these are all so pretty! My lilac bush did die a few years back. I can almost smell these though, through ya'lls pictures. Makes me want to go buy another lilac bush.

Add me to the lilac lovers, @qualitygal. We have 3 ancient bushes, two in the standard lavender shade, but the one behind the garage (where few people get to see it, natch) is the most sumptuous, almost pulsating, deep, deep purple-- gorgeous. The scent is always tantalizing...
Always liked the poet T.S. Eliot's highly-quoted line from "The Waste Land":
"April is the cruelest month, breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain..."
The phrase "mixing memory and desire" is so apt, because the scent of lilacs can immediately take you tunneling back in time to a half-forgotten, wistful memory of previous lilacs and places...
