Re: The Boy Scouts Food Drive?...

[ Edited ]

Our community Scouting food drive is next week, also 11/21.

Knowing that this is a volunteer driven organization, I can only imagine the logisitics in trying to get sufficent adult assitance in getting such an effort organized. If they fell short in their goal of picking up, at least there are many other organizations this time of year who are looking for food for those in need.

And a word about donating food - your cash contribution to a food pantry goes a lot further than a bag of food. Food Pantries have huge purchasing power and can buy so much more with your dollar in bulk  than you can on your own at the local market.

Consider a financial contribution! Support your local Food Pantry.

Re: The Boy Scouts Food Drive?...

I've never heard of the scouts here having a food drive.  We have a large area-wide food bank that occasionally has one.

@Shorty2U The Boy Scouts put a flier on my doorstep but the food drive is next week here where I live in Los Angeles.  If they miss us or we didn't get to put it out, we are able to drop it off where they sell live Christmas Trees on a certain lot.

The scouts put the empty bag on the door handle today.  They will pick it up next Saturday, Nov. 21.  (at least that's what the blue bag they left had stamped on it)

I filled my bag today and will put it out early next Saturday morning.  I assume it is a national drive, so it should be the same for everyone.

Received my bag today also.  Will put it out late next Friday night......for pick up Saturday.  It is a good deed the Scouts do, and it will help to feed local needy folks.....

Re: The Boy Scouts Food Drive?...

Thank you for the replies.

I guess other areas of the country have different days?

But- Ours was today the 14th for sure. It is on the card they handed out. And since, I typed earlier, tonights local news @ 10 EST showed Boy Scouts loading a big white box truck. The local news said they collected 50,000 pounds of food in this area! (I assume that means the entire county and or the neighboring county too?) So maybe they ran out of room?

At any rate I was glad to hear this on the news! Thats a lot of food!

But If I hear from anyone at the Boy Scouts via the email I wrote I will post back as to why they skipped picking up here! PS) I can tell you this, we live in a country development of homes and I never see any of our neighbors participating in the postal service food drive, and didn't see any food out today for this which I find sad!

Re: The Boy Scouts Food Drive?...

The scouts around here don't do a food drive.  We just get the annual USPS food drive.  It always seems to rain that day, so I drive it to the post office.

I'm in central Florida and my pick up day was today and it was around 10:15 am that they came and got it this morning.

I didn't bother this year.  Last year it was never picked up yet again.  The canned goods froze and I tossed the whole thing.   Since I go buy groceries just for this I was put out.  I don't really have $100 to just throw away. The year before I called and asked why no one picked it up.  They had no answer and asked if I would deliver it, I said no and they begrudgingly came and got it.  They can drop off the sack but won't come and get it?  I have no clue.

Walmart has a drive where I buy for and donate now.  You just buy your groceries and drop them off as you leave.

Didn't even know the Scouts were having another food drive..  Publix is having their "food for sharing" program.  Each time we get groceries, we have it added to our bill.  Plus we give a nice monetary donation to our local food bank.

Re: The Boy Scouts Food Drive?...

@Shorty2U

I received the bag and not the postcard so when the scouts weren't coming for my groceries I was all over that plastic bag and couldn't find any email addresses.  On the bright side for me, the scouts (this year girl and boy scouts combined) were collecting for Gleaners Food Bank.  My employer is collecting for Gleaners Food Bank.  So, for me the food will still get to the designated food bank, I'll just be carrying it 34 stairs to get into work, lol.
