Huge Price increase in prime rib on QVC

I was surprised when I went to order delicious prime rib I have enjoyed from QVC. 4.5 lbs. I checked my order from last year $69.78. This year it is $95.00. Am I missing something?

Re: Huge Price increase in prime rib on QVC

Beef prices have been skyrocketing for the past two or three years.  Even supermarket beef is high.  The weather has had a lot to do with the high costs.  Many produces reduced the size of their herds mostly due to weather related shortages of feed and hay.

My thoughts are beef prices will continue to rise for another 18-24 months but even once prices stabilize they will remain high.

On top of the increased product price the cost of shipping has also increased.  I guesstimate that at least $15 of the total price is the S&H included.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

I checked my 2013 order and the 4-4.5 lb was $63.24? Has the price of beef climbed that much in a year?

I don't know about where you live, but here in Wisconsin our meat prices have went  through the roof. The prime rib on QVC I am sure has seen the same thing happen, especially  since they offer gourmet cuts.

No idea about QVC's prices, but I do know that beef in general has gotten very pricey.  I think I bought beef  to cook at home only once this whole year - a small amount of something ground so I could make meatloaf.  I paid over $4/pound even for that.

Where else have you checked out prime rib prices?  I'd do that before ordering from anywhere, but I also would not buy cheap prime rib for a special occasion unless I knew my source well.  It's all called prime rib, but it's not all prime!

Re: Huge Price increase in prime rib on QVC

QVC's shipping costs have increased greatly since the past postal increase.  I do most of my shopping online.  One of my favorite internet stores is Anthropologie, and their shipping for 1 item is now something like $25.00.  Which is a dealbreaker for me, though there is a store nearby.

I don't buy beef often but there is a recipe of my mother's I make when my brothers visit and the cost for the beef in that recipe has doubled in the last year.  I agree with @Marp.  With that increase in beef costs and shipping, that probably accounts for the high cost of your prime rib.

Thank you so much ladies for your prompt replies and explanations. They have always been delicious. I guess I will just go ahead and order. It is just once a year after all!

Price of beef has nearly doubled here.  90/10 ground beef is about $7/lb.  I'm not suprised that the price of prime rib has increased, too.

Shop around for quality cuts.  Even my butcher has had dramatic price increases.

One great thing about the Q is that if you aren't completely satisfied they will refund your purchase price.

Re: Huge Price increase in prime rib on QVC

We've had the prime rib and it was good but I have to say that QVC's pricing for whatever foods they sell run a good 15 - 20% more than what I've found around town.

The next year, I decided to go to our local butcher (where we used to live) and ended up with an extremely high quality prime rib, with an extra 2 lbs of meat for quite a bit less than I paid on the Q.  However, I do understand the convenience ratio vrs price, etc.....
