I mostly text these days, but I would prefer to call and hear a voice on the other end. I text my son every few days and he may not get back to me for 24 hours unless it's an emergency. Texting is certainly a way to control your time and situations IMO.

What bothers me sometimes, I see that a friend reads the text and takes hours to answer. Can any one be so busy not to answer for two minutes
Maybe I am too sensitive
Yes.
I might read the text while I'm in a meeting or have Siri read it to me while I'm driving or read it when I'm waiting on a doctor or any great number of things that mean I may have not have time to reply.
If you called, I'd have sent the call to voice mail in every one of those circumstances and you wouldn't have known if I heard your message or not. Assume the same with a text.
People are busy - there's no reason to take that personally.

@I am still oxox ...when you say 'I see that a friend as read the text'....does that mean it was delivered or that the text was actually read by the recipient?
I was not aware that the person sending the text would know when the person receiving the text actually read the text.
As you can tell, I am not a texter, but I do have MESSAGES on my MacBook and it shows when my message is delivered but I don't know if the message was read or not. I am just curious.

I have always thought texting is a way to communicate with people you do not want to talk to.

I don't mind texting, but I can't get used to someone just vanishing in the midst of a conversation. Hello, are you there.........?
And...no good byes!

I'm not @I am still oxox , but when with iOS, a message is "delivered" when the recipient's phone has received the message.
A message is "read" when the message has been opened.
Technically though, even though someone may have opened the message you can't tell if they actually read the message.

I prefer to hear the callers voice and tone, it's easier for me to determine the context than the written word.
If someone is too busy to speak to me, then they should be too busy to text me.
Just my personal opinion.
I agree completely, @KingstonsMom . My family knows not to text me. I carry my phone for emergency calls and taking pictures. That is it. I can't believe that anyone would be annoyed because someone didn't text them right back. I find THAT rude .
I hate cell phones and the inconvenience of carrying one. I see couples out, not to mention parents with children. No one is looking at each other or speaking to each other. They are looking at their @#$%^ phone screens.

I prefer to text; direct, to the point, said it, I’m done. I know who will respond quickly and who never has their phone with them.
I HATE phone conversations; they allow too much personal drama to creep in. If you’ve got personal drama, deal with it the same way I deal with my mine, and move on. I don’t want to hear it. Texting is perfect for me.

I also prefer to text with someone...i don't wan't any voice mails either...
If someone calsl on my cell phone while out shopping i cant't always hear it ring in my purse..
but i check for texts..often..
I don't carry my cell phone with me at home..it stays on my computer table here in my living room!
I also prefer to at times not to talk to some people on my land line.!.
If i don't answer phone leave a message on recorder and i will call back !
I dislike talking on phones!
Unless you are a close friend or family member...then sometimes make it short...lol

If it is important I prefer to call or to receive a call. I text back and forth with my 2 daughters as I know that is their preferred way of communicating, but again if it is important, I will call! I call my mom every evening to chat with her for about 10-15 minutes. She will be 88 next week and has no idea on how to text....Same with my Mother in Law......
