She just killed her own kids. She still has a gun in her hand - or at least at her avail (I don't know the EXACT scene). If I'm a cop coming up on the scene I have no reason to believe that she isn't going to kill me, too.
The cops did the right thing. There were bodies down, her own two children, she refused to put the gun down and was walking in the direction of one of her daughters to obviously shoot her again.
The police officer who shot her to death did the right thing.
She did not cooperate and was still a threat.
So, he shot her to death.
Good!!!!

It's interesting to me that not one poster has come onto this thread to chastise the original poster for the way she titled the thread.
I'm not complaining at all, because I watch/read the news and already know about tragic stories before I visit this board.
However, if the title of this thread had been "Texas mom kills cat....or puppy....or gorilla....or ANY animal", the original poster would have been raked over the coals. Interesting that nobody complains over the title when its a human that has been killed. Am I the only one to note this difference?
So OK in Israel over night a 17 year old boy broke into a home and repeatedly stabbed to death a 13 year old girl. They did not know each other.
Just another random act of violence and people will say well its Israel it is what it is regardless of the tragic nature.
I think this is the same you don't need to rake people over the coals because they may react more if it is an animal. The headline is sad and tragic I don't know what you want out of people in reaction.
This Mother had a history and her family did not try to prevent the inevitable. They had a chance to prevent this.
That 13 year old child did not do anything to provoke this boy who did not know her. She was the target of all his grief and hate. Animals being killed again they unfortunately live in our world where we constantly justify their murder.
So really not the same imo the child and the animals are innocent they don't have the option to prevent their murder. This mom and her family a tragedy waiting to happen.

Thank You for filling in the scene. Now I KNOW for sure it was the right thing to do. The police officer would have had no choice.

Most people who love their children would try to stop a tragedy instead of running away, gun or no. She could've had a knife - I guess he would've run then, too.
There's more to this story, I predict.
This is so sad. What parent wouldn't run TOWARD his/her child???
@YorkieonmyPillow - I think you're right.
@beach-mom @YorkieonmyPillow - The 911 calls have been released.
He pleaded with her not to shoot their daughters, but to shoot him instead. He did not run away to save his own life.
She said no, that this was to "punish" him. Shame on you both for calling the man a coward. He will be living in hell with the memory of what she did for the rest of his life.
He was unarmed; so were the daughters. The woman planned the whole thing and deliberately chose his birthday to carry out her evil intentions.
My only regret in the whole thing is that the police killed her. She should have rotted in jail for the rest of her worthless life.
@Venezia - That's a little harsh. I never said he was a coward. What I was agreeing with was there was more to the story (the sentence I bolded). I have not heard the tapes.
I can tell you though, if someone is going to hurt my child, I will run to protect them.
I heard she shot her elder daughter again as she lay dying in the street, and was preparing to shoot the younger one again when the police came.
Whatever this family's story is - this woman was mentally ill and needed help.

Shadows of Andrea Yates in this very tragic and sad story.
SHe suffered from depression, grief, anxiety, probably panic disorder, was seeing a therapist, was on NEW meds, had a history of suicide attempts and people are SURPRISED?
I don't know, guys, I don't know.
He had 20 years to know what was going on and was surprised?
In the end, she and her daughters are dead. I think there is FAR more to this but we'll probably never know.

@beach-mom - Your comment in the post I quoted about "what parent wouldn't run TOWARD his/her child" to me implied that you agreed with the previous comments (also in bold on my computer). Yorkie had called the man a coward in another post and this was a follow-up to that.
I'm sure any sane parent would want to protect his/her children and I am sure this poor man did, too. And what parent would want to live with the horrific memories he will now have?
No one was there. No one has any idea what actually happened other than what we hear on the tapes. No one knows what s/he would have done in the circumstances. I'm sure he and his daughters were trying to decide in a split second what were their best chances for survival. And for all we know, the man never thought in a million years that she would actually shoot the daughters she professed to love so much.
Mentally ill? Perhaps, but the facts coming out show that she planned the whole thing. Premeditated and cold-blooded for sure. Just because someone has a mental illness doesn't automatically mean that s/he doesn't know what s/he's doing.

Mentally ill, but with the wherewithall to plan (premeditated) these murders? I can't feel sorry for this woman. She also drank heavily with the medications she took. I feel sorry for the father.

If he didn't run to save his own life what other motivation would there have been? Obviously he was running to save himself.
She had time to reload, come back outside, and shoot the daughter in the back. I guess he was running down the street at the time.

I apologize if this was discussed pages ago, but I read that the 911 calls from the girls and Dad were released. I couldn't bring myself to listen to them as I read that the girls begged for their Mom to not shoot them and someone said they were sorry and asked for her forgiveness. I have two daughters and the fact that they were begging their Mom to not shoot them is sooo heartbreaking on all levels. Those poor girls were terrified to the end. I just can't process how this mother could do this to her family. That poor Dad is left with these horrible memories....
