Re: Texas Power Grid

[ Edited ]

Asking Texans to conserve energy? Yeah, that's going to go over real well. Most Some will probably lower their thermostats to 60 in defiance.

Those who do cooperate with each other are doing a very good thing. I hope no one suffers, regardless of their actions or attitude, and that the bills later on are manageable. I know that after the previous debacle, many owed a lot of money. Hopefully they've fixed that.

I don't live in Texas but Mother Nature is not dependable.  I agree with @granddi  that the infrastructure needs to be upgraded everywhere and perhaps--I know this is not going to happen--put the brakes on uncontrolled development.

We used to live in Henderson, NV, where water is critical not only for consumption but to provide electricity.  Development there is out of control and no one is coming up with any solutions.  A major disaster waiting to happen, IMO!!

I read that part of the issue is not enough wind for the wind turbines. Seems green energy isn't all that's it's cracked up to be.

Yes , that has been reported that the high pressure system parked over Texas has reduced wind and thus the wind turbines. It is easy to blame the power shortage on wind, but our system is old and outdated. Not enough upgrades have been made to accommodate the increase in population.

I wish stores would reduce power use like residences are doing.

Totally agree!

It seems that people are saying that Texas is highly dependent on wind energy and when there is no wind, you have rolling blackouts. Is that true? I didn't realize that the majority of energy generated in Texas is green. I just assumed it was fossil fuel, since I've always viewed Texas as a major oil producer. I'm frankly a little shocked.

I find that insulting.

Also, wasn't part of the issue with the big freeze was that the wind turbines froze so couldn't produce needed energy last year?

Do you?

I think that if windpower is the source of the ERCOT problems, they should remove it from their grid.

No, she doesn't. I believe she's in TN.
