Yeah, many that I know and shoot with are gung-ho pro gun ownership and NONE of them think arming teachers is a good idea. I don't know anyone that does among the gun crowd, including myself.
Oh, there are plenty of people in the gun crowd who think it's a good idea, including leaders at Texas schools and the Texas Legislature. It's already a thing here in Texas. Over 100 districts allow teachers to carry guns at schools and some schools have threatening signs posted out front.
Argyle Independent School District (ISD) in Texas has armed teachers: http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2018/03/01/some-teachers-armed-in-argyle/
So does Callisburg ISD: http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-texas-school-armed-20180222-story.html
And in 2017, the Texas Legilsture and the Governor passed a law allowing guns on college campuses, whether carried by teachers or students. That was a follow-up to their 2015 law that allowed guns on any state property, including hospitals, courts of law, and even mental hospitals. They had to come back in 2017 to ammend that one to remove mental hospitals from the list. You can still carry a gun in courthouse, but not into an actual courtroom.
The Texas Capitol has a metal detector and you have to stand in line to go through and get inside - unless you have a conceal carry handgun license. If you bring your CHL to the Capitol, you can show it to a Trooper and get right in, bypassing the line entirely, even at its longest. And yes, during some debates back in 2013, the Lt Governor ordered the Troopers to search the handbags of all women entering the building and confiscate all of our tampins and 'feminine products' because they were worried about protests, but they still allowed guns. (They also took my sunscreen!)

Not sure why Texas was singled out but 8 states preceded Texas in allowing for campus carry.
As far as armed teachers in public schools-it is still up to the school to decide if teachers can be armed.
Most of the armed schools are in West Texas which is an indicator of another issue.
Missouri has allowed armed teachers for years.
I think if we are going to discuss arming teachers and campus carry laws we need to look at the whole picture and determine where it is allowed and how it has been working. Have there been accidental shootings? Has anybody been harmed? Has any potential shooter been deterred?
Too many complex questions with complex answers.

@Alison Wonderland Of course there are, otherwise there wouldn't be a move to make it happen. Please note that I stated that the people I personally know as well as myself do not support the move.
Big difference.
Lumping everyone into one group is rarely a good idea because rarely does everyone agree 100% on something .I believe that only happens in cults.

First thing you learn in gun safety is always check that gun is unloaded, always, and point gun away from anyone in the room with you. If this man was an officer he should of known, these are basic gun safety rules.

This was the 3rd time in just two weeks that teachers made "mistakes" or shot their guns at schools. It should make one feel so safe arming teachers.
sarcasm.

CNN did a story about a group of teachers
learning how to shoot. All lined up at the range aiming &
shooting stationary, paper targets.
First thing I, as well as many other viewers, saw was,
let’s kindly say,
‘they lacked the mobility to safely use a firearm.’
Sadly, this was a group of young/middle-aged adults.
Their physical abilities would hinder them from safely using
eye-hand coordination to assess a deadly situation.
“Running to safety”....ooof...I would guess not.
If they had to squat behind a door or shoot from a prone position?
Ah um....that ain’t happening.

Many years ago «All in the Family» ran an episode where Archie Bunker was being interviewed as a man-in-the-street. The question posed was how to stop airline highjackings, a big problem in the 1970s. Archie’s answer: «Arm all your passengers.»
At the time, the line was hysterically ridiculous. Now we’re hearing, «Arm your teachers.” I think we’ve gone nuts!

In my area, the schools are having trouble keeping their campus gun free. Parents (some)come to school functions armed to the teeth. The other parents and teachers don't like it, and I don't blame them. I'm not sure if it has been resolved yet ,or not

Happy Easter, as well.
