I guess I am one of the few here who was not hit with higher taxes this year. I live in GA and seniors 65 and older get a substantial tax break. The first $62,000 of retirement income including pensions and income from 401k's etc is excluded from state income tax as is all Social Security benefits. I also live in a county where those over 65 do not pay school taxes regardless of income.  As for federal taxes we both have extra taxes withheld from our pensions and Social Security each month so we will not get an April surprise.

Has there been a recent change to taxes that I'm not aware of?
Is there something different about taxes this year than in the past?
I guess I haven't been paying attention.

Like everyone else we pay the same types taxes to the Fed/State/City/Property. Pay City Taxes, but cannot vote in City Elections of any kind.

Heard that Federal Taxes would go up only for those making $400,000 annually. What 8 know is this: Call it a Tax/Inflation or what term one chooses. We do not make anywhere close to $ 400,000 annually, but to me what I pay for food/gas/utilities and other necessities? They are costing me at least a couple thousand $$$ more now that at this same time in April last year.

Our federal and state returns tallied up to about what they have been for quite a few years.  We just got back from the CPAs office.. We try to structure it so we don't have to pay anymore on tax day.

Property taxes on the residence are silly.  That's my county BOS.  They've been steadily rising and we've seen a  16.3% increase since 2020.  The area is growing and I do appreciate some of the improvments we are seeing.

I don't always agree but then again, I'm not the only one who lives here.

Umm...tthat's what taxes are supposed to do. I guess you're ok with no roads, military, etc, etc,. As Benjamin Franklin said: “Our new Constitution is now established, everything seems to promise it will be durable; but, in this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes.

All I am saying is a little equity would be nice.

When money is spent, someone pays for it.

When people are fogiven loans and don't have to pay for them, somebody else is paying.

When something is free, somebody pays to buy it. Someone somewhere paid for it.

When money is spent, hold on to your wallet because it is opening up before your eyes.

Have there been changes to the tax law which make for higher taxes this year???? I haven't heard a thing about it. In order for your taxes to go up federally, there needs to be a law passed. The last one was 3 years ago. If state taxes are too expensive, appeal to your state lawmakers. We get taxed to death at the state level, but my state has the amenities, safety and health services I need, so I accept it as a fair trade off.

I don't mind paying taxes.  What I DO MIND, is the wasteful spending, mostly by our federal government, across the board.

Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else. Margaret Mead
